Overview

The Solar Farm Technician I is responsible for the advanced, independent operation, maintenance, and repair of solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) assets, ensuring maximum asset availability and performance. This role handles the full range of preventive and corrective maintenance — including complex electrical, mechanical, and SCADA-driven diagnostics — with minimal oversight, and serves as a primary technical resource and mentor for Associate and Technician II staff. The role contributes directly to site reliability, continuous improvement initiatives, and safety culture.

Responsibilities

  • Safely install, operate, maintain, and repair solar PV systems and inverters to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

  • Lead and perform solar operations and maintenance activities while applying site procedures, job hazard analyses, and lockout/tagout practices.

  • Demonstrate and enforce proactive safety leadership, including hazard mitigation, near-miss reporting, and coaching team members on safe work practices.

  • Ensure compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety requirements through interpretation of regulations and corrective actions.

  • Independently troubleshoot and repair solar PV infrastructure, including modules, inverters, combiner boxes, and electrical components.

  • Analyze SCADA data, alarms, and electrical measurements to diagnose complex technical issues and implement corrective solutions.

  • Coordinate with engineers, OEMs, and vendors to resolve system-level issues, minimizing downtime.

  • Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance by prioritizing work, estimating labor and materials, and sequencing tasks.

  • Lead inspections, testing, and commissioning activities to verify system performance and compliance.

  • Maintain accurate technical documentation including CMMS entries, reports, and inspection findings.

  • Mentor junior team members with hands-on instruction and safety coaching.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Engineering or related field preferred from an accredited US school.

  • Certification in renewable energy technology or electrical systems preferred.

  • NABCEP Certification or Electrical License preferred.

  • Unrestricted driver license in good standing.

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant technical experience, preferably in renewable energy.

  • Proficiency in reading advanced electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical schematics.

  • Experience in hazard recognition and mitigation, especially for high-complexity operations.

  • Ability to operate independently on complex assignments.

  • Willingness to travel as needed to job sites.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., walk long distances, climb ladders, and work at heights or in confined spaces.

  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends or on-call support.

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States; no sponsorship available.
