JOB SUMMARY
Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients with foot and ankle disorders in collaboration with WhidbeyHealth podiatrists, orthopedic surgeons, and primary care providers, consistent with WA state scope-of-practice regulations. Provide medical support of the podiatry services, managing routine visits so surgeons can focus more on operative care.
PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS includes the following, other duties may be assigned:
Core Clinical Responsibilities:

History and physical exam: focused on the lower extremity, including neurovascular assessment, dermatologic exam, biomechanical/gait evaluation, and diabetic foot risk stratification.

Diagnosis and management of common conditions: diabetic foot ulcers, peripheral neuropathy, onychomycosis and ingrown toenails, tinea, plantar fasciitis, tendinopathies, bunions/hammertoes, gout and inflammatory arthritis, sprains/fractures, and lower-extremity cellulitis.

Wound care: debridement, offloading, dressing selection, negative-pressure wound therapy oversight, and management of infection.

Chronic disease co-management: especially glycemic control and vascular risk factors in diabetic patients, and coordination with endocrinology, vascular surgery, and infectious disease.

Ordering and interpreting diagnostics: radiographs, labs, arterial studies/ABIs, and cultures.

Procedures: nail avulsions, matrixectomy, injections (corticosteroid/local anesthetic), I&D of abscesses, casting/splinting, and application of offloading devices.

Prescribing medications: including antibiotics, analgesics, antifungals, and DME (orthotics, diabetic footwear, walking boots).

Perioperative care: preoperative clearance/optimization, postoperative wound checks, suture/staple removal, and complication surveillance.

Patient education: diabetic foot self-care, offloading adherence, and preventive footwear.
Administrative & Professional Duties:

Accurate documentation, coding, and care coordination.

Participation in quality improvement, limb-preservation/amputation-prevention programs, and interdisciplinary rounds.
JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Completion of an accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) program.
Training and Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in wound care, diabetes, primary care, or orthopedics/podiatry is preferred.

Approved 6-Hour Suicide Prevention Training Course Completion
