JOB TITLE - Middle School Drama Director

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR - Director of Athletics & Activities

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM - Assistant Director of Athletics & Activities; Athletics & Activities Coordinator; High School Drama Directors, PAC Specialist

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION - To instruct participants in the fundamental skill, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and group success. At the same time, the student-performer shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation and internalization of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, self-confidence, and showmanship. Implements "quality" principles and tools to improve effectiveness of the program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Interpersonal Relations

  • Promote appropriate showmanship at events and rehearsals.

  • Prepare and implement rehearsal plans and set yearly goals for students as well as the program as a whole.

  • Display good team preparation in areas of team mechanics, emotional readiness and skill development.

  • Show concern for the safety and well being of athletes.

  • Knowledge of Activity and Rules

  • Demonstrate proper care of injuries and injury prevention.

  • Demonstrate and conveys knowledge of performing arts.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of and abide with the rules and regulations governing the activity.

  • Demonstrate consistency with the philosophy and ethics.

  • Personal Conduct

  • Command respect and set the example.

  • Respect others.

  • Remain ethical in dealing with others.

  • Cooperation with other Directors

  • Share knowledge and cooperate with other directors.

  • Display respect for other activities and programs.

  • Inform student-performers of the potential hazards and the possibility of serious injury with the improper or proper use of equipment and in participation of the activity itself.

  • Appropriately acknowledge student achievement.

  • Management Responsibilities

  • Cooperate in developing eligibility lists, equipment needs and program information.

  • Require all performers to complete the necessary pre-participation requirements.

  • Be punctual and responsible with inventory and other duties.

  • Display accuracy and care in record keeping.

  • Follow Athletics & Activities Department policy in all areas to include: record keeping, reporting inventory, transportation, purchasing, fundraising, and program management.

  • Manage the entire program, not just the top level.

  • Professional Responsibilities/Public Relations

  • Provide supervision and administration of group members in regard to contests and events, practices, buses and dressing rooms.

  • Cooperate with the various staffs and administrations.

  • Participate in in-service and professional activities meetings.

  • Accept recommendations and suggestions from supervisors.

  • Implements an effective public relations program in regard to the news media, colleges and universities, parents and students.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS -

  • Repetitious bending, lifting, and hand movement.

  • Ability to work while standing, moving and/or walking.

  • Drug, tobacco, and alcohol-free while working.

  • Must be able to see and hear within normal limits with or without corrective lenses or hearing aids.

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle used to travel between sites.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT -

  • Per Board Policies and the UEA Master Contract.

  • Contract as determined by activity and season dates.

  • Performance evaluated per Board Policy.
