Company Overview Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.

Overview

  • Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized, passionate, and hands-on individual to join our Quality organization. This position features a rigorous 15-month Quality Engineer Development Program designed to build deep, cross-functional technical expertise across aircraft manufacturing, quality systems, and airworthiness.

  • Through structured, hands-on rotations across five core disciplines, you will gain comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in: • Quality Control (QC)

  • Quality Assurance (QA)

  • Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE)

  • Metrology Engineering

  • Quality Engineering (QE)

  • Following completion of the 15-month program, you will transition into a targeted Quality Engineering role overseeing flight, propulsion, and manufacturing systems for our revolutionary electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft as we scale toward commercial production.

Responsibilities

  • Rotational Execution: Successfully execute technical objectives and hands-on learning modules across QC, QA, SQE, Metrology, and QE rotations over the 15-month program.
  • Core Quality Execution: Support the development, verification, and manufacture of products using Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Continuous Improvement, and Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques.
  • Design & Technical Reviews: Perform design reviews evaluating inspectability, consistency, accuracy, and conformance to engineering requirements, providing recommendations to design teams.
  • Root Cause & Corrective Action: Analyze product/process failures using structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, 5-Why) to ensure robust containment and CAPA execution.
  • Quality Systems Compliance: Perform product and process audits to verify compliance with engineering drawings, manufacturing work instructions, and internal ISO 9001 / AS9100 / FAA regulatory standards.
  • Material Triage: Represent Quality on the Material Review Board (MRB) and support Engineering Change Actions (ECA/ECO).
  • Lean & Continuous Improvement: Lead and participate in 5S, Kaizen, and mistake-proofing initiatives to optimize shop-floor workflows and remove operational waste.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Interface directly with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Operations to ensure smooth transfer of new products and processes into production.

Required

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Manufacturing or a closely related technical field.
  • 0 to 5 years of professional experience, co-op experience, or internships supporting an engineering, quality, or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong desire to participate in a structured, multi-disciplinary 15-month technical development program.
  • Fundamental understanding of quality philosophies, systems, inspection tools, and mechanical principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and professional written/verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive, growth-oriented mindset with the ability to take ownership of tasks in a fast-paced aerospace environment.

Desired

  • Basic exposure to ISO 9001, AS9100, or IATF 16949 Quality Management Systems.
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.
  • Exposure to the AS9102 First Article Inspection (FAI) process.
  • Foundational understanding of FAA regulatory requirements and aviation quality standards.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) coursework/certification.
  • Experience or internship background in aerospace, automotive, or complex electro-mechanical manufacturing.
