What's The Role

The primary function of the Field Technician, VPTO in Bequia is to perform installations, maintenance, repairs, and removal activities of the company’s products and services to the B2B/B2C customers within required Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) at the required level of quality and within the stipulated time.

What You'll Do

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Perform Installation, Adds, Moves, Changes, Troubleshooting, Maintenance and Support of all B2B and B2C related services and equipment offered by the company, including but not restricted fiber and copper drops, modems/ONTs, switches, routers, Firewalls PBXs, fixed telephony handsets, and other equipment forming part of the company’s solution portfolio offered to the Small to Medium Enterprise.

  • Provide smart hands to assist in the configuration, turn-up and troubleshooting of services in close coordination with departments responsible for such activities.

  • Perform surveys of premises to establish the most appropriate route for carrying out customer premise wiring, and ensuring necessary physical, environmental, requirements are met to support

  • Provide onsite installation and maintenance support activities on all B2C and B2B services according to the defined policies and protocols.

  • Perform end-user training to B2C/SMB customers on the use of products that form part of the Company’s SMB voice and data Portfolio

  • Comply with defined KPIs for all activities.

  • Work closely with the B2B Solution Implementation & Delivery (SID), Project Management and Fixed Network Construction and Outside Plant teams to successfully deliver and restore customer solutions and services.

  • Work closely with the dispatch and CSC to troubleshoot and repair network faults to facilitate restoration of customer services.

  • Install, test, and certify premise cabling according to industry and company standards

  • Maintain and report on individual stock materials.

  • Remain up to date on standardized processes, policies and procedures as set by Central T&I by participating in periodic training.

  • As it relates to B2B field services, oversee contractor resources as needed to comply with relevant KPIs and report to the team lead on the performance of contractors.

  • Document and update customer-related information as needed to ensure an up-to-date customer information database.

  • Perform any other tasks as required.

What You'll Need

Role Requirements:

  • Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.

  • Must be able to work remotely and onsite at customer premises on flexible shifts, nights and weekends.

  • Must be able to lift and move equipment (approx. 80lbs) and work on ladders/poles at heights up to 40 feet.

  • Must be able to work safe and efficient with hand tools. (Crimping tool, cable testers).

Knowledge & Experience

  • At Least three (3) years in a related role with experience in PBX voice and broadband and data systems.

  • Must have practical hands-on experience working in situations with direct customer impact actions

  • Technical college diploma or certificate in Electronics/Telecommunications.

  • 5+ years of experience in a field technical role in the telecommunications or ICT sector.

  • Telecommunication / ICT industry certification (Cisco CCT, CompTIA, or the like) preferable, or proven equivalent knowledge.

Skills and Abilities

  • Must demonstrate working knowledge in different access network technologies as relevant in-country, coaxial RF distribution, Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON), Fiber To The Home (FTTH), Optical Time-Domain Reflecto-meter (OTDR) systems, DSL/Coaxial Noise Detection and Measurement, Spectrum Analyzers.

  • Must demonstrate working knowledge of TCP/IP and SIP Protocols

  • Must demonstrate working knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking, Network Design and Support

  • Must demonstrate knowledge of IT infrastructure including IP-PBX systems, firewalls, routers and switches.

  • Must demonstrate working knowledge of company’s current cloud services offerings to the SME segment, including MyUC and other hosted solutions.

  • Must demonstrate working knowledge of VoIP.

  • Must demonstrate working knowledge of wireless LAN networking technologies and systems.

  • Must have strong computer literacy, and be proficient in Windows, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

  • Must have demonstrated problem solving skills

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with internal and external contacts.

  • Must be a team player
