Job Description

Hands-on technical individual contributor role supporting our client's Global Marketplace with no direct reports. The eCommerce Architect will own solution-level technical design and architectural integrity while working closely with engineering, product, program management, cybersecurity, operations, business stakeholders, and implementation partners. The role is responsible for translating marketplace strategy into scalable technical solutions and staying involved through development, integration, testing, launch, and ongoing operations. This person will need strong enterprise eCommerce architecture experience combined with genuine hands-on engineering depth, particularly around composable/headless commerce, APIs, enterprise integrations, cloud architecture, B2B commerce, marketplace capabilities, and global platform design. The role leads through technical expertise and influence rather than people management.

Skills and Requirements

Eight or more years of software engineering experience, including three or more years designing and delivering enterprise eCommerce or marketplace solutions in a technical architecture capacity. Demonstrated delivery of complex commerce implementations from solution design through production launch and ongoing operation. Strong hands-on development skills in Java, C#, TypeScript/JavaScript, or a comparable language, with the ability to review code, build prototypes, and diagnose application and integration issues. Deep understanding of API-first, headless, and composable commerce architectures, including service boundaries, synchronous and asynchronous integration, and event-driven design. Practical experience with enterprise commerce platforms and their extension models, APIs, catalog structures, pricing, carts, checkout, and order lifecycle capabilities. Strong integration skills across REST, GraphQL, webhooks, messaging, identity federation, and enterprise systems; experience designing for retries, idempotency, reconciliation, and data consistency. Experience designing cloud-based solutions on Azure, AWS, or a comparable platform, including automated deployments, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and application monitoring. Working knowledge of relational and nonrelational data stores, search indexing, caching, content delivery, performance testing, and distributed-system troubleshooting. Ability to explain technical trade-offs clearly, document decisions, and influence business stakeholders, engineers, and partners without direct reporting authority. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Experience in B2B distribution, automotive or commercial vehicle parts, aftermarket commerce, or other large-catalog environments. Experience with multi-seller marketplaces, seller integrations, product compatibility or fitment, and high-volume catalog and inventory updates. Experience delivering global platforms with regional localization and integrations to both modern and legacy enterprise applications. Hands-on experience with one or more enterprise commerce platforms, such as commercetools, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, SAP Commerce Cloud, Adobe Commerce, or Shopify Plus. Experience with modern storefront frameworks, automated contract and integration testing, cloud architecture, and secure software development practices. Relevant cloud, commerce platform, or solution architecture certifications.
