GhostRx Inc., a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), is seeking one (1) Pathologist Assistant to join Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Services at the Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr. VA Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Working under the direction of staff pathologists, you will perform gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens that support accurate, timely diagnoses for the Veterans who served our country.

Qualification and Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident (Green Card) status required to perform services under this federal contract

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English well enough to communicate effectively with pathologists, laboratory staff, and the care team; basic computer literacy required

  • Master’s degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program

  • Current Pathologists’ Assistant certification through ASCP (PA(ASCP)) required

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pathologists’ Assistant in a hospital-based surgical pathology laboratory; autopsy experience preferred

  • Expert knowledge of human anatomy, histology, and surgical pathology grossing techniques for specimens of all complexities, including oncologic resections

  • Proficiency in frozen section preparation, specimen photography, and tissue triage for ancillary studies

  • Working knowledge of CAP cancer protocols and synoptic reporting requirements

  • Ability to successfully complete a federal background investigation, fingerprinting, and VA credentialing package, including primary-source verification of education and certification

  • Documented immunizations and TB screening; annual privacy, information security, and bloodborne pathogen training required

  • Willingness to complete facility orientation and laboratory competency training before beginning the assigned schedule

Responsibilities

  • Perform gross examination, description, dissection, and tissue sampling of surgical pathology specimens ranging from small biopsies to complex resections under pathologist supervision

  • Dictate accurate gross descriptions and cassette summaries in accordance with CAP protocols and departmental standards

  • Prepare frozen sections and assist pathologists with intraoperative consultations

  • Triage and submit tissue for ancillary studies, including flow cytometry, cytogenetics, microbiology, and molecular testing

  • Assist with or perform autopsy prosection under pathologist direction, including documentation and specimen collection

  • Photograph gross specimens and maintain specimen retention, storage, and disposal according to regulatory requirements

  • Maintain a safe grossing area, including formalin and xylene exposure monitoring, chemical hygiene, and instrument maintenance

  • Participate in quality assurance, CAP inspection readiness, and the training and orientation of laboratory staff

  • Comply with CAP, CLIA, and Joint Commission standards, infection control and safety policies, HIPAA, and all facility rules and procedures
