Full job description

Position Overview

The Power Generation Engineer II serves as an independent engineering contributor within OPPD's Generation Engineering team. Supporting OPPD's mission of reliable and environmentally responsible energy production, this role engages in engineering work across multiple sites including Cass County, Turtle Creek, Jones Street, and others. You will evaluate system performance, perform troubleshooting, contribute to generator and control system support, and develop engineering deliverables that enhance plant reliability. This role balances technical execution with growing leadership in project coordination and analysis.

The Impact You'll Have

  • Conduct independent engineering analysis to evaluate equipment performance, identify root causes, and propose practical solutions.

  • Support electrical control system logic updates, documentation improvements, and reliability enhancements.

  • Troubleshoot electrical system issues that require engineering-level analysis beyond maintenance capabilities.

  • Contribute to project planning by developing task estimates, tracking work, and coordinating with operations, maintenance, and project partners.

  • Produce clear, accurate engineering documentation that supports technical decisions and project advancement.

  • Recommend improvements to processes, workflows, or tools to strengthen system reliability and team efficiency.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully complete essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Experiences

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Demonstrated ability to perform independent engineering analysis.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and technical judgment.

  • Effective communication skills for presenting technical information.

  • Ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams and manage multiple tasks.

  • Experience analyzing generator systems, control logic, electrical equipment performance, or troubleshooting industrial systems.

  • Exposure to project management practices or participation in equipment upgrade projects.

Salary/Wage Info

Grade: S4

Minimum: $90,759

Midpoint: $113,449
