The Pathways Into Education Center (https://www.albany.edu/education/pathways-education-center) (PIE) Center is the School of Education's primary resource for current and future students as well as alumni on all undergraduate and graduate programs including educator preparation programs and minors ranging from intake to certification requirements.

The Director of the Pathways Into Education Center (https://www.albany.edu/education/pathways-education-center) is responsible for student engagement, including developing recruitment, retention, and completion strategies, fostering a community for both undergraduate and graduate students, and providing non-degree academic advising for all programs within the School of Education. The Director serves as a certification specialist, providing support to current students and graduates seeking certification. The Director participates in assessment and accreditation activities, helping to ensure appropriate information, as needed.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment: Develop and manage short-term and long-term recruitment and retention plans for graduate and undergraduate students, in collaboration with the Dean's Office, Departments/Division, Admissions, and Advisement Services Center. This responsibility includes prospect advisement, workshops, creating marketing materials, making presentations, establishing articulation agreements, facilitating and attending recruitment events on- and off-campus including open houses and recruitment fairs.

  • Retention: Assist academic departments with yield efforts, including scheduling and/or hosting information sessions, prospect and applicant outreach, and providing application data as needed.

  • Academic Advising: Collaborate with the department advisors, to assist non-degree students and students enrolled in School of Education minors in course selection.

  • Certification: Serve as the university's certification specialist, providing certification advisement to prospects, current students, alumni, faculty, and staff. Submit university recommendations, conduct out-of-state certification verifications, assist with federal reports such as Title II, attend SUNY Teacher Certification Consortium meetings, and assist the University Certification Officer.

  • Student Success and Engagement: Organize undergraduate and graduate activities and workshops in areas such as career readiness, personal wellness and strategies for academic success. Manage school wide orientations and support departments with program specific student support activities.

  • Assessment/Accreditation: Aid in the self-study and site visit process and participate in other activities as needed.

  • Outreach: Engage with school and other entities for recruitment and community engagement purposes such as K-12 student visits and presentations.

  • Lead and manage direct reports/team providing guidance, support, and performance feedback to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to the University's mission. Lead employees for maximum performance and dedication, fostering a positive and productive work environment. Complete performance management feedback and goals timely and per requirements, offering constructive feedback and developing improvement plans.

  • Other reasonable duties as assigned.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships:

  • Reports to: Assistant Dean for Academic Programs, Partnerships and Accreditation; Executive Director of Student Success.

  • Supervises the following positions: Assistant Director of PIE, Graduate Assistants.

Job Requirements:

  • Proficiency in interpreting and applying New York State Education Department Certification regulations for teaching and/or leadership.

  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or equivalent in advanced graduate program from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

  • Three (3) years of professional experience working at a college or university.

  • Two (2) years of professional experience working in college level academic advising or student success activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree in education or related field from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

  • Work experience within an education-related department, School, or College.

  • Experience in recruitment or marketing for a college or university.

  • Experience supporting pre- or in-service teachers with NYS certification processes.

  • Experience managing student or professional staff.

  • Some evening and weekend duties are required

Professional Rank and Salary Grade: Staff Associate, SL4, $75,000-85,000.
