Maintenance Mechanic / Welder / Fabricator

Augusta, GA

General Shale, Inc., the nation’s leading manufacturer of brick and masonry products, is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic / Welder / Fabricator to support operations at our Augusta, Georgia manufacturing facility. This position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and fabricating production equipment to ensure safe and efficient plant operations.

Position Overview:

The Maintenance Mechanic / Welder / Fabricator performs preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment and production machinery while utilizing welding, fabrication, and machining skills to repair and improve equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on engines, motors, pneumatic systems, conveyors, and production equipment.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues using observation, technical manuals, testing equipment, and precision measuring tools.

  • Disassemble, inspect, repair, and replace defective or worn components using hand and power tools, hoists, and cranes.

  • Measure and evaluate parts using calipers, micrometers, and other precision instruments to ensure proper fit and function.

  • Adjust, align, and level equipment and mechanical components as needed.

  • Weld, fabricate, and repair machine parts and equipment using welding and machine shop equipment.

  • Fabricate new machine components and equipment to support plant operations.

  • Monitor and maintain inventory of maintenance parts, equipment, and supplies; order materials as needed.

  • Use maintenance tools, equipment, and resources safely and efficiently.

  • Communicate maintenance issues, repairs, and ongoing needs with supervisors and team members.

  • Document maintenance activities, equipment issues, repairs, and continuing maintenance needs.

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment in accordance with company policies and safety procedures.

  • Safely lift and move materials weighing up to 75–100 pounds.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

  • Previous industrial maintenance, mechanical, welding, or fabrication experience preferred.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

  • Welding and fabrication experience.

  • Ability to read and interpret diagrams, equipment manuals, and technical specifications.

  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and welding equipment.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to safely perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 75–100 pounds.
