Full job description

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.

ABOUT THE TEAM We are looking for a Staff Manufacturing Engineer (Low Observable Systems) to support our Fury autonomous aircraft program at our Arsenal 1 facility in Ashville, OH. Anduril's manufacturing teams are scaling production of low observable (LO) structures and coatings — radar absorbent materials (RAM/RAS), specialty topcoats, and composite assemblies — that give our air and sea systems a survivability edge. We're looking for a Low Observable Manufacturing & MRB Quality Engineer to own both the manufacturing process engineering for LO materials/coatings and the Material Review Board (MRB) disposition process for nonconforming material across LO and composite build lines. This is a hands-on, floor-facing role that sits at the intersection of manufacturing, quality, and engineering.

What You'll Do

  • Develop, qualify, and sustain manufacturing processes for low observable treatments, including surface preparation, RAM/RAS application, specialty coatings (e.g., primers, conductive/non-conductive topcoats), and bonded composite structures
  • Serve as a voting/engineering member of the Material Review Board (MRB), leading root cause investigations and dispositioning nonconforming material (use-as-is, rework, repair, scrap) in accordance with AS9100/ISO 9001 and customer/program requirements
  • Author and maintain work instructions, process specifications, travelers, and inspection criteria for LO and coatings processes
  • Drive corrective and preventive action (CAPA) programs to close out nonconformances and prevent recurrence; track MRB trends and feed data back into process control plans
  • Partner with Design, Quality, and Supply Chain to assess manufacturability and producibility of LO features early in the design cycle
  • Support first article inspection (FAI/AS9102), process validation, and statistical process control (SPC) for coating thickness, cure, adhesion, and RCS-relevant surface properties
  • Coordinate with NDI/NDT and quality inspection teams to define acceptance criteria for coating integrity, bond lines, and composite defects
  • Lead or support root cause/corrective action (RCCA) investigations using structured problem-solving (8D, 5-Why, fishbone) for escapes and internal nonconformances
  • Own documentation and configuration control for LO/coatings specs, ensuring compliance with internal material specs and applicable military/industry standards
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to reduce scrap, rework, and cycle time on LO production lines
  • Support audits (internal, customer, and regulatory) related to quality systems, MRB records, and LO process compliance

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years of experience in aerospace/defense manufacturing, with direct exposure to low observable materials, coatings, composites, or RAM/RAS processes
  • Demonstrated experience participating in or leading a Material Review Board (MRB) process, including nonconformance disposition and root cause/corrective action
  • Working knowledge of AS9100/ISO 9001 quality management systems and standard quality tools (SPC, FMEA, 8D, FAI/AS9102)
  • Hands-on familiarity with coating application processes (spray, dip, or specialty application), cure cycles, surface prep, and adhesion/bond testing
  • Ability to read and author engineering drawings, work instructions, and process specifications; GD&T literacy
  • Strong root-cause problem-solving skills and comfort working directly on the manufacturing floor
  • Must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to export control (ITAR/EAR) requirements on this program; ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with radar cross-section (RCS) testing, RAM/RAS material characterization, or electromagnetic test methods
  • Prior work on classified or SAP (Special Access Program) low observable programs
  • Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification
  • Experience with composite layup, autoclave/oven cure processing, and bonded structure repair
  • Familiarity with PLM/MRP/MES systems (e.g., Windchill, SAP) for traveler and nonconformance records
  • Active DoD security clearance (Secret or higher)
