This posting is for a full-time, unclassified, in-person, on-site staff position for our Bossier campus. Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience.

  • Three (3) years of teaching experience in higher education.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear and handle or feel objects and controls.
  • Must have physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office equipment such as, but not limited to, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or carry up to 10 pounds.
  • Must be capable of sitting in stationary position for 50% or more of time.

The Assistant Dean of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics provides leadership and management for the day-to-day instructional operations of the division at all College sites. Reporting to the Dean, the Assistant Dean is responsible for course scheduling, syllabus verification, advising operations, faculty onboarding and support, classroom observation, and the resolution of student concerns, and supports the alignment of the division's academic programs and workforce-aligned training with the needs of employers and industries across the College's service area. The Assistant Dean represents the division to the broader instructional environment while conveying the policies of the College and implementing those policies within the division. The Assistant Dean shall model and sustain the behavioral commitments of Caring Campus within the division and shall maintain a commitment to quality instruction and training, the primary objective of the institution. INSTRUCTIONAL OPERATIONS AND SCHEDULING:

  • Identify scheduling needs through available tools such as AdAstra, BLIP, and DegreeWorks, and prepare and coordinate class schedules during fall, winter, spring, Maymester, and summer semesters for all College campuses, centers, and instructional sites, in consultation with the Dean and program directors.
  • Recommend faculty instructional assignments to the Dean consistent with faculty expertise, academic preparation, and credentialing, and coordinate the assignment of adjunct instructors across all sites and modalities.
  • Monitor class size limits throughout registration, track enrollment by section, and recommend the addition or cancellation of sections to the Dean.
  • Coordinate registration events within the division for fall, winter, spring, Maymester, and summer semesters, and provide updates regarding faculty advisor assignments to the Dean and the Office of Academic Affairs.
  • Verify that every division course section offered in the active term has a syllabus published in Simple Syllabus and accessible to students through Canvas. Consult with faculty on needed modifications and improvements, confirm that syllabi meet the expectations of the College, and report exceptions to the Dean.
  • Coordinate the ordering of textbooks and necessary instructional materials with division faculty and the campus bookstore for all classes in the division.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day operation of division labs, including scheduling, staffing, supplies, and adherence to safety standards, and report equipment and maintenance needs to the Dean.
  • Serve as the division's operational point of contact in the absence of the Dean, as delegated.

FACULTY SUPPORT AND SUPERVISION:

  • Supervise the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of part-time instructors and all staff within the division, as delegated by the Dean.
  • Coordinate onboarding and orientation for full-time and adjunct faculty and staff, including the dissemination of course materials, Canvas course shells, and College policies and procedures.
  • Serve as the evaluator of record for all adjunct faculty teaching division courses. Conduct classroom observations of adjunct faculty at every site where division courses are taught and in every instructional modality, and complete their performance reviews in accordance with College policy and established timelines.
  • Assist the Dean in reviewing student evaluations of faculty each semester and in discussing results with faculty to identify strengths as well as any areas for improvement.
  • Make recommendations to the Dean on the continued assignment, retention, or dismissal of adjunct faculty according to prescribed policies and procedures, and provide input to the Dean on personnel matters involving full-time faculty and staff, as assigned.
  • Serve as a resource for full-time and adjunct faculty on College policy, instructional procedures, and instructional technology.
  • Assist with faculty credentialing, including preparation of the Credentialing Verification Form for new faculty hires and the annual review of the BPCC Faculty Credentialing Matrix for division courses.
  • Actively encourage the use of emerging learning-centered practices by faculty members in the division.
  • Assist the Dean in ensuring ongoing professional development opportunities for full-time and part-time faculty and staff, including industry training that maintains currency in the disciplines taught.
  • Promote a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, collaboration, and excellence in performance, and serve as a positive role model who embodies team values and promotes high morale among faculty and staff.

STUDENT SUCCESS AND CARING CAMPUS:

  • Model and sustain Caring Campus behavioral commitments within the division, ensuring that faculty and staff intentionally connect students to people, programs, and services across the College.
  • Operationalize division advising processes, including regularly reviewing and revising advising materials so that they align with catalog requirements and program pathways.
  • Address and resolve student concerns in accordance with College policy and procedure, and refer matters to the Dean as appropriate.
  • Operationalize the activities of the division related to retention, marketing, and recruiting, as appropriate.
  • Monitor student enrollment and retention at the course and section level using retention reports and other data, and report trends and recommendations to the Dean.
  • Coordinate with program directors, faculty, and staff to confirm that applications for graduation within the division are submitted in time to meet all deadlines set by the Registrar.
  • Represent the division at recruitment activities, registration events, career events, and other College and community functions.
  • Respond to inquiries and correspondence about the courses, programs, or degree plans within the division.

CURRICULUM, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING:

  • Assist the Dean in developing, implementing, and assessing a rigorous and relevant curriculum with program directors, faculty, employers, and other stakeholders that reflects current industry practice, technology, and standards.
  • Assist in the preparation and routing of curriculum proposals, including new courses and programs as well as revisions, additions, and deletions, and track each proposal through the required levels of review and approval, including the College's Curriculum Committee, the LCTC System Board of Supervisors, and the Louisiana Board of Regents, as applicable.
  • Assist with the preparation and revision of course descriptions and other catalog information for division course offerings and programs, and participate in the annual review of the College Catalog.
  • Confirm that approved curriculum changes are reflected in advising materials, program maps, and articulation documents, and communicate those changes to faculty, advisors, students, and other interested parties.
  • Work with program directors in transfer and articulation processes, and assist the Dean in coordinating with area universities and community colleges concerning programs, curricula changes, and transferability of courses.
  • Assist the Dean in assessing the technological, instructional, and equipment needs of faculty and students in division courses and programs, with attention to industry-current equipment and software.
  • Assist with the selection of library materials, visual aids, and information software to support the division's instructional goals, and advocate faculty and student use of library resources.

WORKFORCE AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:

  • Support the Dean in building and sustaining working relationships with employers, industry partners, and workforce and economic development organizations across the College's service area.
  • Coordinate the logistics of program advisory committee meetings, including scheduling, agendas, minutes, and documentation and follow-up of committee recommendations.
  • Assist with the integration of industry-based credentials, licensures, and third-party certifications within division programs, including coordination of testing and the tracking and reporting of credential attainment.
  • Assist with the coordination of work-based learning placements, including internships, apprenticeships, field placements, and cooperative education, in partnership with regional employers.
  • Assist the Dean with short-term training, customized training for employers, incumbent worker training, and professional development offerings within the division's disciplines, and with building pathways from that training into the division's academic programs.
  • Assist the Dean with reporting on grant deliverables and with the documentation required by external funders.
  • Actively participate in community activities, advisory boards, and professional organizations that advance the goals of the division and the College.

PLANNING, ASSESSMENT, AND ACCREDITATION:

  • Assist the Dean in strategic planning for the division, including identifying division outcomes and monitoring achievement of outcomes that support the College's long-range goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate the collection of student learning outcomes data each semester for division courses and assist the Dean in discussing results with program directors and faculty.
  • Assist with the coordination of program reviews and with the compilation of evidence required for institutional accreditation, programmatic accreditation, and relevant licensing and certifying bodies.
  • Assist in preparing institutional, state, and national reports on a timely basis, as appropriate.
  • Develop division procedures and provide assistance to the division for curriculum and instruction, credentialing, program approvals, and advisory boards, as appropriate.

BUDGET AND RESOURCES:

  • Assist the Dean with the development and management of the division budget, as assigned.
  • Assist with the ordering of items approved in the budget and with tracking expenditures in the division.
  • Manage and report time keeping for employees within the division.
  • Assist the Dean with the planning and management of the physical facilities assigned to the division.

LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE:

  • Actively participate in committee work that promotes the goals of the division and the College.
  • Attend division meetings, assist in preparing agendas, and support the communication of decisions and information to faculty and staff.
  • Maintain open communication with all full-time and adjunct faculty, remaining accessible to answer questions and accountable for the accurate and timely dissemination of information.
  • Other duties as assigned.
