Controller

Description We are looking for an experienced Controller to provide hands-on financial leadership for an agriculture operation in Palm Desert, California. This Contract position will oversee core accounting activities, strengthen financial controls, and deliver accurate reporting that supports sound business decisions. The role also partners closely with cross-functional teams to improve inventory valuation, crop costing, and production-related financial visibility within the organization.

Responsibilities:

• Lead daily accounting operations and guide the department to ensure timely, accurate financial reporting across the business.

• Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting team members while establishing clear ownership, training plans, and coverage for essential tasks.

• Review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules to maintain the integrity of monthly and year-end close processes.

• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking activity, fixed assets, and intercompany transactions across multiple entities.

• Build and maintain reliable inventory and cost accounting processes that track crop value before harvest, accumulate production costs, and support accurate margins and cost of goods sold.

• Partner with teams across growing, production, purchasing, sales, and human resources to align financial processes with day-to-day operational activity.

• Support effective use of NetSuite for financial management, including inventory, work-in-process tracking, and costing analysis.

• Provide oversight for payroll accounting and related processes within ADP Workforce Now.

• Maintain current accounting policies, procedures, and role documentation while reinforcing practical internal controls throughout the department. Requirements • 2+ years of experience in a Controller or senior-level accounting role.

• Background in financial statement preparation, review, and analysis.

• Experience supporting financial statement audits and maintaining audit-ready documentation.

• Strong working knowledge of journal entries, account reconciliations, and accrual accounting.

• Familiarity with payroll accounting and oversight in ADP Workforce Now.

• Experience with inventory accounting, cost accounting, or work-in-process tracking in an operational environment.

• Ability to work cross-functionally and translate financial information into practical business insight.
