Full job description

Description

We are looking for an exceptional Supply Chain leader to build and lead the team that equips our factories.

You will commit long lead manufacturing capital equipment ahead of production need, while the process itself is still being selected. Machining, casting, molding, joining, assembly and test. The sourcing strategy you set determines machine count, capital deployed and cost per unit at full rate, and the commitments you make have to land against factory move in and start of production dates that do not move.

This is a builder role. You will start by owning the commodity directly, hire your team as the ramp accelerates, and define the scope, coverage model and operating rhythm yourself. This is an opportunity to equip a factory from an empty floor, at a scale and pace the industry has not attempted.

Key job responsibilities

  • Team Build and Leadership: Hire, develop and lead the team responsible for capital equipment sourcing by commodity. Define the coverage model against the factory schedule, write the job descriptions, run the hiring, and onboard into an environment where the process does not yet exist. Carry commodity ownership directly until the team is in place.

  • Capital Equipment Sourcing Strategy: Own end-to-end capital equipment sourcing across multiple advanced product portfolios, including supplier identification, market analysis, RFQ/RFP execution, total cost of ownership modeling, and award decisions across machining, casting, molding, joining, assembly and test equipment, automation systems, tooling, and infrastructure. Define and implement sourcing approaches that optimize cost efficiency while advancing technical capabilities. Build should-cost and machine-rate models that translate process selection into capital and headcount impact at volume.

  • Equipment Design Review and Technical Evaluation: Apply engineering knowledge to contribute to equipment design and design review with OEMs and integrators. Evaluate engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T and equipment specifications to confirm machines meet process, cycle time, tolerance and operational standards prior to award and at acceptance. Assess supplier proposed design changes for process capability and cost impact. Author technical requirements in equipment RFQ packages, user requirement specifications, and FAT/SAT acceptance protocols.

  • Contract Negotiations: Lead complex negotiations with OEMs, equipment manufacturers, integrators and service providers, structuring commercial agreements covering pricing, payment terms, warranties, acceptance criteria and run-at-rate protocols, SLAs, and long-lead-time components, and managing the full contract lifecycle including amendments, renewals, and dispute resolution.

  • Long-Lead Commitment and Schedule Risk: Own the equipment commitment calendar against factory move-in and start-of-production dates. Identify items where lead time exceeds available schedule and drive mitigation through slot reservations, capacity agreements, phased releases or alternate suppliers.

  • Procurement Playbook Development: Develop and own sourcing frameworks, standard operating procedures, and operating mechanisms that scale with the organization.

  • Supplier Performance Management: Establish and manage supplier performance programs, including scorecards, SLAs, and regular business reviews. Identify and mitigate supply chain risks through dual-sourcing strategies, should-cost models, and contingency planning. Assess supplier capability to build, install and commission at the required rate, not only to quote. Conduct on-site technical capability assessments including machine capability studies, process validation and dimensional review of first articles.

  • Budget Management: Manage capital budgets with cost controls, variance tracking, and change management governance. Support material planning, inventory strategy, and spare parts availability. Drive large-scale cost optimization initiatives with demonstrated results.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership and Partnership: Align equipment procurement timelines with site milestones and schedules in close partnership with cross-functional teams across the organization. Serve as the supply chain leader in cross-functional planning forums. Influence senior leadership on strategic direction and investment decisions related to the supply chain.

About the team

Amazon is building the next generation of robotics technology, and this role is key to our vision. Our Supply Chain team is responsible for standing up and scaling the procurement, sourcing, and supplier management functions. We are a small, high-impact team solving complex problems at the intersection of technology and production, and we are looking for builders who want to shape something from the ground up.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience presenting to both technical and non-technical executive audiences

  • Experience leading complex, multi-year initiatives that may be cross-functional and/or span business and technology

  • 10+ years of experience in supply chain management, strategic sourcing, or procurement in manufacturing, industrial automation, or similar technical environment

  • 3+ years of experience managing and developing a team, including hiring

  • Experience managing capital equipment procurement programs and vendor portfolios for complex environments, including equipment, automation, and tooling

  • Experience leading contract negotiations with OEMs, equipment manufacturers, or construction contractors for agreements of significant value

  • Experience developing sourcing strategies, procurement frameworks, or standard operating procedures that have been adopted across an organization

  • Experience sourcing capital equipment for a new factory, production line or capacity expansion

  • 2+ years of experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints and specifications to confirm equipment meets operational standards

  • Experience defining technical requirements, user requirement specifications and acceptance criteria for manufacturing equipment

  • Experience evaluating manufacturing process capability, including tolerance, cycle time and yield, to inform equipment selection

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business or related

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in business, data science, public administration, finance, engineering, human resources, or related field, or PMP certificate

  • Experience interpreting data and making business recommendations

  • Experience identifying, negotiating, and executing complex legal agreements

  • Experience designing, implementing, and scaling workforce development programs across large-scale operations, including forecasting workforce needs and leveraging analytics to drive program decisions

  • Experience interpreting data and making business recommendations across leadership and cross-functional teams

  • Experience using analytical tools for workforce metrics and reporting

  • MBA or advanced degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, or Business

  • Experience in automotive, aerospace, battery, automation, semiconductors, high-tech, or similar industries

  • Experience standing up a sourcing or procurement function from zero, including defining scope, writing job descriptions, hiring, and operating without established process

  • Direct sourcing experience in one or more of: CNC machining centers, gear manufacturing die casting, thixomolding, injection molding, stamping and press lines, stator winding, or automated assembly and test systems

  • Experience with equipment qualification and acceptance, including FAT, SAT, run-at-rate and PPAP

  • Experience committing long-lead capital equipment inside standard lead time and managing the resulting schedule risk

  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar)

  • Six Sigma, Lean, or other continuous improvement certifications

  • Experience managing significant capital budgets with demonstrated cost optimization results

  • Proven ability to influence at senior leadership levels on strategic sourcing and investment decisions

  • Experience in engineering drawing interpretation in a machining, casting or molding environment

  • Experience leading equipment design reviews with OEMs and integrators through FAT, SAT and run-at-rate
