Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.

  • Master’s Degree in Library and/or Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association.

  • Ability to operate within a complex technology environment (includes campus software, e.g., SAP , Office 365, etc.) and specialized software relevant to cataloging and metadata (e.g., OCLC , FOLIO , MarcEdit).

  • Knowledge of information access standards and metadata schemes ( RDA , AACR2, LCSH , MARC21, OCLC standards, CONSER standards, etc.).

  • Knowledge of cataloging practices, policies, and procedures regarding library resources.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of library linked data standards and applications.

  • Conflict resolution techniques.

  • Knowledge of Authority Control for names, uniform titles, and subject headings.

  • Knowledge of trends and emerging best practices in library services.

Job Description

Texas State University Libraries is seeking a Principal Cataloger. This position provides is responsible for the original and copy cataloging of materials in multiple formats and languages. The position performs metadata and authority work in multiple platforms, including the online catalog, OCLC , Wikidata, etc. The position is also responsible for contributing to the Department’s migration to enhanced metadata technologies.

In collaboration with the rest of the Scholarly Resources department, they will work to provide a welcoming, responsive, user-focused, service-oriented environment for University Libraries patrons.

Job Duties

  • Catalog/re-catalog library resources in multiple formats and languages.

  • Performs collection projects to support Library goals to facilitate excellent customer service.

  • Collaborate with other metadata staff to manage authority control workflow and serve as point of contact for authority control vendor.

  • Enhance and assure accurate authority metadata across multiple platforms.

  • Evaluate condition and quality of library materials.

  • Participates in appropriate professional development activities.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
