Full job description

Vice President of Engineering Queens Carbon | Cedar Grove, NJ | Full-time, on-site Reports to: CEO About Queens Carbon Build the future of cement. Queens Carbon is scaling a new way to produce cementitious materials from limestone and clay—the same widely available feedstocks the cement industry uses today—with best-in-class economics competitive with traditional cement and a fraction of the CO₂ emissions. No incentives or green premium required. We are seeking a Vice President of Engineering to build and lead our engineering organization and scale our technology into reliable, cost-competitive commercial systems. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring equal strength in technical engineering, people management, and industrial commercialization. You will develop a high-performing engineering team while being directly involved in design, equipment development, problem solving and troubleshooting. Working directly with the CEO, you will collaborate with R&D, Product Development, and Engineering Operations to take our technology from pilot and demonstration scale through commercial deployment. What You'll Do

  • Recruit, build, lead, and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team spanning process, mechanical, electrical, software and controls engineering.
  • Establish clear responsibilities, performance expectations, technical standards, and accountability across the engineering organization.
  • Serve as the senior technical authority for Q-System design, personally contributing to critical calculations, design reviews, engineering decisions, and problem-solving.
  • Lead design and scale-up of industrial process equipment, including thermal systems, steam and pressure equipment, solids handling, heat recovery, and plant utilities.
  • Direct development of engineering deliverables, including mass and energy balances, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and control philosophies.
  • Translate experimental and operating data into robust commercial designs, identifying and resolving critical scale-up risks.
  • Develop standardized, modular Q-Systems that integrate into existing cement plants while optimizing capital cost, operating cost, performance, and reliability.
  • Lead technical evaluation of equipment suppliers, fabricators, engineering firms, and EPC partners.
  • Partner with Engineering Operations through procurement, fabrication, commissioning, and startup, providing technical leadership and resolving equipment performance issues.
  • Establish engineering discipline around process safety, design reviews, technical documentation, and change management.
  • Yes, you will speak with Customers!

What You Bring

  • Engineering leadership: Proven ability to recruit, manage, mentor, and develop high-performing multidisciplinary engineering teams, including direct people management and performance accountability.
  • Hands-on technical expertise: Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to independently perform calculations, evaluate designs, and solve complex industrial equipment and process problems.
  • Industrial scale-up: Demonstrated experience taking process technologies from pilot or demonstration through engineering, commissioning, and sustained operation.
  • Commercial judgment: Ability to balance technical performance, capital and operating costs, reliability, safety, and schedule.
  • Execution and collaboration: Experience managing external engineering partners and working across technical, operational, and commercial teams.
  • BS or MS in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, with 10+ years of relevant industrial engineering experience.

Experience in cement, lime, minerals processing, chemicals, thermal processing, continuous solids handling, pressure equipment, modular systems, or first-of-a-kind industrial technology commercialization is especially valuable. Don't meet every qualification? We welcome candidates from diverse industrial backgrounds who demonstrate strong technical leadership and experience bringing new technologies into operation. Compensation & Benefits This position is based at our headquarters and R&D facility in Cedar Grove, New Jersey.
