SUMMARY: The Charge Nurse serves as a clinical expert and supervises staff within the Labor and Delivery unit. This role provides direct and indirect patient care, guides staff development and education, and oversees designated management functions to ensure high-quality, cost-effective patient care. MINIMUM/PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Required: Current and unencumbered Nevada RN license American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) or NRP Instructor certification S.T.A.B.L.E. Program certification AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring OR NCC Certified Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) within 3 years (renewed every 3 years) Three years of clinical nursing in an acute care facility Preferred: Current certification in specialty field Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Unit-Specific Requirements - Labor and Delivery: Required: AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring OR NCC Certified Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) within 3 years (renewed every 3 years) Unit-Specific Requirements - Pediatrics: Preferred: NVCI/CPI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) initial certification within 6 months JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: Demonstrate expert clinical knowledge and serve as a resource for staff Provide direct patient care to patients and families in a culturally appropriate manner Improve all processes to achieve excellence in quality standards, benchmarks, and Evidence-Based Practice Collaborate with unit leadership to provide direction for staff development, orientation, and staff meetings Support Evidence-Based Practice in guiding nursing care plans Enhance skills and performance of others through coaching, feedback, and clear objectives Optimize staff utilization through effective assignment planning and evaluation Manage daily operational flow including assignments, rounds, transfers, discharges, and communication with cross-department teams Review and implement CIHQ standards and participate in Tracers Foster interdisciplinary collaboration and serve on committees/councils Participate in goal setting and prioritization with unit leadership Manage staffing, scheduling, orientation, development, and hiring selection Educate and precept new staff Demonstrate competency in electronic documentation and act as a resource for others Participate in fiscal management including equipment repair, new equipment evaluation, and staffing levels Perform other related duties as assigned WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Fast-paced clinical setting with laboring patients, postpartum patients, and newborns Requires leadership responsibilities and hands-on clinical skills Involves constant coordination with interdisciplinary teams BENEFITS: Carson Tahoe Health provides a comprehensive benefits package (details available through their HR resource ).
