Full job description
Position Overview
The Power Generation Engineer III is an advanced technical role within OPPD's Generation Engineering team, supporting the electric power system across multiple generation facilities including Cass County, Turtle Creek, Jones Street, and others. This role leads complex engineering evaluations, develops technical standards, troubleshoots high-impact equipment issues, and guides reliability strategies for generator and electrical control systems. As a senior technical contributor, you will also mentor junior engineers and help ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant operation.
The Impact You'll Have

Lead complex engineering evaluations using advanced technical judgment to diagnose system issues and develop solutions.

Support major updates to plant electrical control systems, including logic revisions and system improvements.

Conduct advanced troubleshooting for emergent issues that exceed operations and maintenance capabilities.

Manage portions of projects, ensuring scope, schedule, and quality expectations are met.

Develop or refine engineering standards, procedures, and specifications.

Mentor early-career engineers and support the development of technical skills across the team.

Coordinate cross-discipline collaboration to ensure effective project planning, execution, and reliability outcomes.

Preferred Experiences

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering

Advanced engineering experience, typically 5+ years, in power generation or industrial electrical systems.

Strong expertise in troubleshooting, system evaluation, and engineering analysis.

Ability to lead technical efforts and mentor others.

Strong communication skills, collaboration capabilities, and project coordination experience.

Experience leading equipment upgrades, major modifications, or reliability improvement initiatives.

Experience defining or improving engineering standards and processes.

Familiarity with advanced control logic diagnostics, generator system health monitoring, or reliability engineering practices.
Salary/Wage Info
Grade: S5
Minimum: $98,877
Midpoint: $123,596
