Full job description

The Department of Economics at Rice University in Houston, Texas, invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in Labor Economics and/or Public Economics, beginning July 1, 2027. The rank is open. Candidates at the Assistant Professor level should have completed the Ph.D. in Economics or a closely related field

by the date of appointment. Candidates at the Associate or Full Professor level should have a record of scholarship commensurate with appointment at that rank at a leading research department.

We seek a scholar whose research addresses substantive questions in labor or public economics, broadly defined, including but not limited to human capital formation over the life cycle, intergenerational mobility, the design and evaluation of tax and transfer programs, labor market institutions and wage-setting, and the labor market

consequences of technological change. Both empirical and structural approaches are welcome. The successful candidate will join a department with substantial depth in applied microeconomics and will have opportunities for collaboration through the Center for Economic Mobility.

Responsibilities include research, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and service to the Department and the University. Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, job market paper or representative publications, and a teaching statement. Applications received by November 15, 2026, will receive full consideration.

Also, in our candidate pools, we seek to attract greater representation of women, scholars of color, people with disabilities, veterans, and others who have historically been underrepresented in Economics. Rice is located in Houston, one of the most diverse metropolitan areas in the United States.

Rice University is an Equal Opportunity Employer with commitment to diversity at all levels, and considers for employment qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national or ethnic origin, genetic information, disability or protected veteran status.
