During probationary period, position will work M-F, 8:00 am-4:00 pm. After probationary period, position may be required to work M-F, 4 pm-12 am during the Fall/Spring semesters and M-F, 8:00 am-4:00 pm during the summer.

Position Summary

MAINTENANCE REPAIRMAN 1

DEFINITION : This is semi-skilled maintenance and repair work in the building, mechanical or electrical trades.

An employee in this class works in a variety of trades at the sub-journey level in the maintenance and repair of public buildings and equipment. Work involves minor repair jobs of a routine nature, which are carried out with only general supervision, or more advanced work assisting a journey level skilled tradesman or foreman in regular trades maintenance jobs. Supervision is received from a maintenance supervisor who assigns work, inspects work in progress, reviews reports, and inspects work upon completion.

EXAMPLES OF WORK :

Opens blocked drains, assists HVAC Mechanics or Technicians with installation of pipe as needed.

Assists with general fabrication & repairs that involve welding, brazing or soldering.

Assists trades & HVAC staff with maintenance and repairs as needed, to include pumps, motors, fan motors, fans, squirrel cages etc.

Lubricates, adjusts & maintains electrical motors and pumps.

Clean screens, such as air intakes, building exhaust and building fresh air intakes as needed.

Assist Maintenance Repairman 2’s with preventative maintenance of campus HVAC equipment.

Makes minor repairs and adjustments to laundry & custodial equipment, lubricates & cleans machinery as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES , SKILLS , AND ABILITIES :

Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and

practices used in at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades.

Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved.

Ability to use and maintain the tools and equipment of the trades involved.

Ability to perform tasks requiring mechanical aptitude.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to lift and move heavy objects and to work under adverse weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING :

Two years of experience in general maintenance work which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades;

or

Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required

Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT :

Some agencies may require possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Drivers License.

A successful interview and passing a criminal background check required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with diverse populations is preferred.
