Salary Range: $18.00 To $18.00 Hourly

Purpose: Five Star Bank’s Summer Associate Program is designed to develop the next generation of financial services professionals to help us advance our vision of being an independent, high-performing community bank. As a Commercial Credit Summer Associate, you’ll be immersed in the credit underwriting and portfolio management process for commercial lending. You’ll support the Commercial Credit team in evaluating financial statements, assessing risk, and preparing credit presentations for new and existing clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in analyzing financial statements, tax returns, and cash flow projections for commercial borrowers

  • Support the preparation of credit memos and risk assessments for loan approvals and renewals

  • Participate in loan committee meetings and gain exposure to credit decision-making

  • Collaborate with Relationship Managers and Credit Analysts to understand client needs and credit structures

  • Help monitor existing loan portfolios and identify potential risk indicators

  • Conduct industry and market research to support credit analysis

What We’re Looking For:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field, with a junior-level standing or higher preferred.

  • Candidates must be available to work a hybrid work model, 40 hours per week for the duration of the program starting in June.

  • Occasional travel within corporate footprint (Buffalo and Rochester) will also be required.

  • At least 1 year in one or more club(s), volunteerism efforts, or other activities outside of the classroom

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling is a plus

  • Interest in commercial banking and credit risk management

  • Self-starter with a collaborative mindset and attention to detail

  • Curiosity, initiative, and a desire to learn in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrate the standards and principles of the Five Star Bank experience in every interaction with internal customers, associates, and stakeholders. Incorporate the high-performance behaviors of teamwork, leading by example and serve in every facet of work.
