The notice of the last day to file applications will be posted on the State of Hawaii's Civil Service Job Opportunities Listing page of our website.The Mental Health Supervisor series involves responsibility for the management of a clinic providing a variety of mental health services and is responsible for directing, supervising, and coordinating a multidisciplinary staff of several types of professionals and, typically, paraprofessionals, clerical staff and other personnel; and performing other related duties as assigned.

The Mental Health Supervisor II is distinguished by its responsibility for directing, supervising, and coordinating a broad variety of mental health services with more types than Level I and a larger number of multidisciplinary professional staff, including subordinate supervisory staff.

The current vacancy position is located in the Affiliated Programs Unit, State Operated Specialized Residential Program (SOSRP), which is a licensed and accredited residential treatment program on the grounds of the Hawaii State Hospital (HSH) campus for patients requiring specialized treatment who are discharged from the hospital.To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Legal Authorization to Work: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Basic Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in sociology, social work, psychology or other related behavioral science; or in nursing; or in rehabilitation, or an activity therapy field (occupational, recreational, industrial or activity therapists).

Specialized Experience: Three and one-half (3-1/2) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in a mental health program concerned with the promotion, protection, preservation, care and improvement of the mental health of individuals. Such experience MUST have demonstrated the applicant's knowledge of the philosophy, principles, concepts and practices relating to the treatment and rehabilitation of the mentally ill, emotionally disturbed and substance abusers.

Supervisory Experience: One (1) year of work experience involved in supervising others which included: A. Planning, organizing, scheduling, and directing the work of others; B. Assigning and reviewing their work; C. Advising them on difficult problem areas; D. Training and developing subordinates; and E. Evaluating their work performance.
