Job Description:

Advanced Manufacturing Engineer II – Hydraulic Assembly

Job Description

We are seeking an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer to join our Corporate AME team as a bridge between New Product Development engineering teams and site manufacturing teams for hydraulic product assembly. This role focuses on identifying manufacturability and process risks early and driving them to resolution before launch. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience implementing and supporting hydraulic assembly processes and bringing new products to market, and is ready to grow into broader ownership. You will collaborate with cross-functional global teams to enhance process knowledge and efficiency, apply proven and emerging technology, and improve process control and product quality.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the manufacturing voice in design reviews, translating site assembly and test needs into clear design feedback for Product Development

  • Carry site knowledge back to design teams, including line performance, quality data, and lessons learned from prior launches

  • Identify manufacturability and process risks early through DFM reviews, PFMEA, prototype builds, and site feedback; log and track them in a shared risk register

  • Drive identified risks to resolution by coordinating design, process, and equipment solutions between design and site teams, and escalate to senior engineers or leadership when needed

  • Support early-phase NPD planning for hydraulic assembly, applying DFM/DFMA, PFMEA, and equipment selection tools with guidance from senior engineers

  • Facilitate PFMEA and DFM sessions with design and site representatives, and contribute to Process Control Plans

  • Help develop, improve, and validate critical assembly fixture tooling

  • Investigate and implement hydraulic assembly processes improvements in coining, torque/fastening, press and fitting installation, seal and O-ring installation, fluid fill, bleed, and cleanliness control

  • Work with design and site teams to specify and qualify assembly and test equipment, including leak, pressure, flow, and functional test systems, with error-proofing built in

  • Develop workstation- and cell-level assembly designs with site input, including layouts, material flow, and ergonomics

  • Create and maintain Work Instructions and contamination and cleanliness requirements with site input

  • Support site readiness for NPD launches, including process trials, debugging, and operator training, and confirm agreed design and process changes are implemented at the site

  • Perform root cause analysis and corrective action on issues found in builds, trials, and launches, and feed the results back into design and process standards

  • Provide input to estimates of routings, cycle times, and capital requirements, and support evaluation of process automation opportunities and related product design requirements

  • Communicate verbally and in writing so design and site teams stay aligned; present risk and project status to the team and stakeholders

  • Build and maintain a culture anchored on Milwaukee's core values: Candid | Extreme Ownership | Disruptive Mindset | Speed, Agility, and Urgency | Relentless Improvement | One Team Mentality

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering, or Engineering Technology

  • Minimum 3-5 years of related experience in a manufacturing environment or New Product Development with experience in assembly operations

  • Experience working with both design engineering teams and plant manufacturing teams

  • Ability to communicate technical risks and trade-offs clearly to both designers and manufacturing site personnel

  • Experience in applying risk identification tools such as PFMEA and DFMA

  • Working knowledge of lean principles and tools, line design, and material flow

  • Experience with 3D product and process modeling software, preferably NX or SolidWorks

  • Experience with tolerance stack-ups and GD&T

  • Experience supporting small- to medium-complexity projects, with demonstrated results and a sense of urgency

  • Analytical and critical thinking skills to understand and solve process problems

  • Ability to build working relationships and thrive in a fast-paced, agile culture with changing priorities

  • Travel (domestic and international) up to 25+%

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated understanding of hydraulic product design or assembly operations

  • Experience launching new products or supporting NPD builds at international manufacturing sites

  • Experience facilitating PFMEA, DFMA, or Process Control Plan sessions

  • Experience with tooling and fixture design and validation

  • Experience in assembly error-proofing, controls, and automation

  • Knowledge of cleanliness and contamination control standards (e.g., ISO 4406, ISO 16232) and leak and pressure test methods

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, or willingness to obtain

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Project

  • Working knowledge of problem-solving methodologies used to determine root cause and formulate corrective actions, i.e., 8D, root cause analysis, control charts, Pareto charts
