We are looking for someone who is:• A team player.

What you will typically be responsible for: • Cleaning outdoor recreation facilities and areas.

• Setting up recreation equipment, supplies, and props for programs, activities, and events; assisting with the issuing and collecting of supplies.
• Assisting staff in running recreation activities and sports programs.
• Referring questions from the public to designated staff.
• Admitting members/guest to recreation events.
• Assisting members/guest in the dining hall or kitchen; setting or clearing table; serving food in the eating area; cleaning and washing kitchen and equipment.
• Unloading, storing, and stacking supplies.
• Assisting with maintaining order and discipline among younger participants.
• Assisting with marking courts and diamonds; performing simple clean-up of grounds and buildings.

This is a public contact position. The City highly encourages all bilingual candidates to apply! Some positions may require bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese, or Mandarin. Under the authority of Civil Service Rules Section 5.03, if a position requires bilingual language skills, only those candidates who have indicated they are bilingual in the required language(s) will be referred. Bilingual candidates will be required to successfully pass a language proficiency test if selected for hire.

Any combination of education and experience that is equivalent to the following minimum qualifications may be acceptable.

Education: Successful completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: One (1) year of experience officiating or playing in an assigned sport.

Candidates must be at least sixteen (16) years of age or older at the time of application.

Desirable Qualifications: Bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese, and Mandarin are highly desirable for certain positions.

Work Permits Minors will be subject to state guidelines and restrictions governing their employment while employed with the City of Oakland. This shall include work permits, records, hours worked and time reporting guidelines. Minors seeking information regarding work permits should contact their local school district. When applicable, work permits must be obtained prior to beginning employment.

Other Requirements Candidates who receive conditional offers of employment will be required to submit fingerprints, undergo a criminal record clearance, and a tuberculosis (TB) screening.

Must pass a thorough background investigation.

Required to wear issued uniform on duty.

Required to maintain issued uniform and keep it in presentable condition.

Required to work evenings and weekends as assigned.The Selection Process

This is an at-will position, exempt from the provisions of the City of Oakland Civil Service Rules, per Charter Section 902. All applications received will be forwarded to the Oakland Parks, Recreation & Youth Development Department for further consideration.

Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee further consideration, only the candidates whose skills and experience match the needs of the department will be contacted for interviews.

Disaster Service Workers

All employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
