Description

We are looking for a Technical Writer to join our team onsite in Burnsville, Minnesota on a contract-to-permanent basis. In this role, you will create clear, accurate maintenance documentation for military hardware and work closely with engineers and technical specialists in a highly collaborative on-site environment. This opportunity is well suited for someone who can turn complex mechanical and electrical information into structured instructions while learning and applying defense documentation standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine maintenance manuals, step-by-step service procedures, and component replacement documentation for sophisticated mechanical and electrical systems.

  • Work side by side with engineers and subject matter experts to convert schematics, design details, and technical data into user-friendly instructions for operators and maintainers.

  • Produce and maintain Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) that align with program and customer documentation needs.

  • Participate in document reviews to verify technical accuracy, consistency, and compliance before release.

  • Support configuration management activities to ensure revisions, updates, and controlled changes are properly documented across deliverables.

  • Incorporate feedback from senior team members and technical stakeholders to strengthen clarity, usability, and adherence to required standards.

  • Contribute to the preparation of documentation that supports defense-related hardware programs and maintenance operations.

Requirements • At least 3 years of technical writing experience gained after graduation, focused on hardware, mechanical systems, equipment servicing, or maintenance documentation.

  • Proven ability to write clear procedural instructions for complex physical systems, including mechanical or electrical equipment.

  • Comfortable working fully on-site and collaborating in person with engineering teams each day.

  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and able to become eligible for a DoD Secret Security Clearance upon permanent conversion.

  • Ability to provide 2 to 3 writing samples that demonstrate procedural, maintenance, or mechanically oriented documentation.

  • Familiarity with tools or standards such as Arbortext, S1000D, IETMs, or technical manual environments is preferred.

  • Strong editing, organization, and version-control awareness when managing detailed technical documents. Innovation starts with people.®
