Full job description
Software Engineer About Rivet Rivet is composable, open-source infrastructure for modern AI requirements. Everything we do is built with an emphasis on self-hosting, flexibility, and performance. We believe no good engineering happens in a vacuum, so we work closely with customers to make sure Rivet fits their use case and is flexible enough for their roadmap. At the core of Rivet is Actors: a primitive for stateful workloads. It provides addressable, long-running processes, SQLite-per-actor, WebSockets, and hibernation. Actors provide a powerful foundation for use cases like agentOS (virtual operating system for agents), Workflows (durable execution engine), and Dynamic Apps (AI-generated app hosting). Rivet Cloud provides a managed way to run the Rivet stack. Most of Rivet is open-source (Apache 2.0), self-hostable, and can be fully air-gapped in your VPC. Code is available at github.com/rivet-dev What You’ll Work On
- Rivet SDK (Rust core + TypeScript bindings): the SDK used to work with Rivet Actors
- agentOS (Rust core + TypeScript bindings): virtual operating system for agents with execution, filesystems, orchestration
- Workflows & Dynamic Apps (TypeScript): thin SDKs built on top of Rivet Actors
- Rivet Engine (Rust, FoundationDB, Postgres, ClickHouse, NATS): the control plane that powers Rivet Actors
- Rivet Cloud: multi-tenant, edge routing, autoscaling, and observability
Almost everything you write will be public. You’ll be working closely with customers to help deploy & scale Rivet deployments on both Rivet Cloud and on-prem. AI Policy We break down our codebase in Rivet:
- Core engine: no/limited ai for mission critical + “off rails” code
- SDKs + frontend: reviewed ai for routine + “on rails” code
- Website: just test the output
Requirements
- Projects with backend or infrastructure systems
- Distributed systems experience in production
- Rust, or a strong systems background in another language like C++ or Go
- Working knowledge of TypeScript
Stack: Rust, TypeScript, FoundationDB, Postgres, ClickHouse, NATS, SQLite. Benefits
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k)
- Unlimited PTO
