Description

SAIC is seeking a Quality Engineer in Middletown, RI. This candidate ensures the quality, reliability, and compliance of electro-mechanical test equipment during fabrication and assembly. This role develops and implements quality plans, monitors production processes, and drives corrective and preventive actions to meet customer, regulatory, and internal requirements. The Quality Engineer collaborates closely with design, manufacturing, test, and supply chain teams to improve processes, reduce defects, and ensure consistent, high-quality output of complex electro-mechanical systems.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain quality plans, inspection criteria, and test procedures for electro-mechanical test equipment.

  • Review engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, BOMs, and specifications to ensure clear, testable quality requirements.

  • Perform in-process and final inspections of mechanical assemblies, wiring, harnesses, and functional performance.

  • Analyze quality data (defects, yields, test results) and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Lead root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for nonconformances.

  • Support supplier quality activities, including evaluation of incoming materials and components.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards (e.g., ISO 9001, customer and internal quality requirements).

  • Train and support production and test technicians on quality standards, procedures, and workmanship criteria.

Qualifications

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quality Management, Engineering, or a related field and five (5) years of experience; years of experience accepted in lieu of degree.

  • Must have the ability to obtain SECRET clearance.

  • Proven experience in quality assurance roles; supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.

  • In-depth knowledge of quality assurance methodologies, tools, and best practices.

  • Familiarity with industry-specific standards and certifications (e.g., ISO 9001, Six Sigma, Lean, etc.).

  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and quality management software (e.g., QMS platforms).

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.

  • Combination of office and [factory/manufacturing floor/laboratory] environments; may require some travel to vendor or customer sites.

  • Ability to work extended hours or shifts as needed to meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Professional certifications such as ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, or equivalent.

  • Experience with quality assurance in manufacturing / fabrication environment.

  • Knowledge of statistical analysis tools and techniques.
