Full job description

About Charta Health

In an industry where the focus should rightly be on delivering quality care to patients, healthcare providers remain burdened by the complexities of non-clinical operations. Charta is changing that.

We're building the operating system for modern healthcare organizations. Our AI platform streamlines critical workflows across revenue cycle, clinical operations, and administrative functions, helping providers and payers operate more efficiently and deliver better patient care. Backed by Bain Capital Ventures, Charta is on a mission to make every healthcare dollar accountable and every chart accurate, reimagining healthcare infrastructure from the ground up.

About the Opportunity At Charta, we prioritize results over the methods used to achieve them. As a Tech Lead Manager, you own the output of your team and the technical decisions behind it. You'll set direction for a pod of engineers, stay close enough to the code to have real opinions about it, and be accountable for what ships and for the growth of the people who ship it.

This is a player-coach role. You should expect to spend a meaningful share of your time writing code, reviewing designs, and debugging production systems. The rest goes to the things that make a team compound: hiring, feedback, scoping, and removing whatever is in the way.

Joining our multidisciplinary team, your responsibilities would include:

  • Setting objectives and priorities for your pod, and holding the line on them when the roadmap shifts

  • Owning problem analysis, solution design, and architecture for your team's surface area

  • Writing and reviewing production code, and setting the bar for quality and documentation

  • Managing, coaching, and developing a team of up to five engineers, including performance feedback and career growth

  • Partnering with product, design, and client-facing teams to turn ambiguous customer problems into scoped work

  • Running hiring loops and helping raise the quality of the engineering org beyond your own team

You'd be a great fit if you have:

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in software development shipping production code

  • At least 1 year of direct people management or formal tech lead experience, with a track record of growing engineers

  • Fluency in one or more backend languages such as Python, Node.js, Java, or C/C++. Next.js and/or React experience is a plus

  • Experience building, testing, and deploying microservices

  • Distributed systems development experience. Performance optimization is a plus

  • Interest or experience developing or leveraging modern generative AI technologies, including both proprietary and open-source large language models, is a plus

  • Experience with AWS, PostgreSQL, Docker, and ECS/Kubernetes is a plus

  • Strong communication skills to be used across engineering, product, and other functional teams

  • Willingness to stay hands-on. This role is not a path out of the code

What we offer:

  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision

  • Equity and growth opportunities in a fast-growing, innovative tech startup

  • Ongoing professional development and access to cutting-edge AI and healthcare tools

  • Lively, in-person work culture at our SF Headquarters or NYC office

  • $230,000 - $300,000 depending on experience + Equity + Benefits

  • Annual performance based bonus up to 30%
