Associate Electrical Engineering Technician - Substation

Job Description

Join an EPC firm supporting projects in the Distributed Infrastructure market sector. We are seeking an Associate Engineering Technician to support the design and delivery of electrical substation projects. This role works closely with engineering and design teams to develop and maintain 2D and 3D design deliverables that support critical grid infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate has experience in drafting and design, a strong attention to detail, and familiarity with utility or substation-related projects.

This is a junior-to-mid level substation drafting role. We're looking for someone with 2+ years of CAD experience who can support engineering teams with drawings and design packages. AutoCAD or MicroStation experience is important. Utility, power delivery, and substation experience are preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create and update substation design deliverables, including:
• One-line diagrams
• AC/DC schematics
• Wiring diagrams
• Front panel layouts
• General arrangements
• Elevations
• Grounding and conduit plans
• Develop and maintain drawings and technical documentation using AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other CAD tools.
• Review design inputs and ensure deliverables comply with project requirements, standards, and quality expectations.
• Perform basic calculations, material quantity takeoffs, and dimensional checks.
• Coordinate with engineering and design teams to support project execution and reduce design conflicts.
• Support quality control efforts and continuous improvement initiatives. Stay current on industry technologies, tools, and design processes.

Skills and Requirements

• HS Diploma

• 2+ years of experience in drafting, design, or engineering technician roles supporting electrical substation projects Proficiency with CAD software such as AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation, or similar design tools

• BS or AS in Design/Drafting/Engineering Technology Experience supporting electrical substation, utility, power delivery, or infrastructure projects.
