Purpose:
The Associate Vice President, Asset Liability Management (ALM) will serve as a senior technical leader and trusted advisor within Athene's ALM function, shaping how the company identifies, measures, manages, and communicates asset-liability risk across its retirement platform. This role will influence ALM governance and best practices across assumption setting, strategic asset allocation, hedging, liquidity, capital, and model oversight while providing independent, decision-ready insights on complex and business-critical issues.
Working closely with senior leaders across Athene and Apollo, you will translate market, investment, liability, capital, and regulatory dynamics into actionable recommendations that influence strategic and governance decisions. This is an opportunity to combine Athene's scale and continued growth in retirement services with Apollo's investment capabilities while advancing innovative, disciplined approaches to risk management and long-term value creation. You will join a culture that values trust, active engagement, ownership, adaptability, and making things happen. Athene's BEAM values emphasize knowledge sharing, active engagement, accountability, urgency, continuous improvement, and trying new approaches.
Accountabilities:
-
Lead and advance ALM assumption and model governance, providing independent review and challenge of key assumptions, methodologies, model applications, and controls used across pricing, planning, portfolio management, valuation and risk reporting. Drive clear documentation, disciplined change governance, and consistent application of approved practices.
-
Drive entity and portfolio level ALM and asset allocation oversight, evaluating duration, cash flow mismatches, liquidity convexity, basis risk, and other material exposures. Monitor positioning relative to Athene's ALM Risk Policy and assess implications for reserves, capital, earnings, liquidity, and risk appetite.
-
Partner with Apollo and leaders across Investments, Actuarial, Finance, Risk, Treasury, and Corporate Development to shape strategic ALM initiatives, hedging strategies, strategic asset allocation, and capital markets assumptions, bringing disciplined analysis and effective challenge to cross functional decisions.
-
Evaluate assignments across strategic asset allocation, pricing, portfolio mandates, and entity level ALM objectives considering U.S and Bermuda regulatory, reserving, capital, liquidity, and cash flow testing implications and identifying emerging risks, trade-offs, and opportunities requiring management attention.
-
Serve as a senior technical advisor and trusted delegate to the VP, ALM, delivering timely analysis on market developments, interest rate exposures, transaction activity, regulatory matters, and other business critical issues and communicating recommendations to senior management, governance committees, asset managers and regulators.
-
Advance ALM analytics, reporting, and decision support capabilities by establishing authoritative reporting sources, reconciling results across systems and methodologies, resolving material inconsistencies, and applying automation and AI-enabled tools appropriately while maintaining strong governance, validation, controls and independent judgment.
Qualifications and Experience:
-
8+ years of experience in asset liability management, investment management, insurance risk management, fixed-income portfolio management, derivatives, actuarial modeling, capital management, or relevant professional experience preferred.
-
4+ years of formal or informal leadership preferred , including demonstrated technical and project leadership across complex, multidisciplinary initiatives and the ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive alignment without direct authority.
-
Expertise in ALM principles, fixed income assets, insurance liabilities, derivatives, financial modeling, cash flow analysis, and key-rate risk, with familiarity across relevant U.S. and Bermuda regulatory, reserving, and capital frameworks.
-
Strong critical-thinking, quantitative, problem solving, organizational and communication capabilities, with advanced Excel skills required; experience with Python, SQL, data visualization, or similar analytical tools preferred.
-
Demonstrated ability to act like an owner and make it happen by working with urgency, adapting to changing conditions, constructively challenging assumptions, collaborating across Athene and Apollo, and using innovation and AI-enabled tools appropriately to improve analysis and decision-making.
-
Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, mathematics, actuarial science, or a related field, or equivalent experience; MBA, CFA, FRM, FSA, or another relevant professional designation preferred.
