Team/Pre-Team Gymnastics Instructor
(Part Time, Non-Exempt)
$17.05 to $21.70 per hour

This is an ongoing recruitment process, with no specific closing date. We will be reviewing applications on a rolling basis.
Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Gymnastics Coordinator, this position is responsible for pre-team/CARA team gymnastics instruction. This job is responsible for teaching safe gymnastics progressions, technique, and routines on all 4 events. This job requires shifts during evening hours and may require weekends.
Essential Duties:

Provide a safe learning environment by spotting patrons appropriately during practices; always keep students in line of vision/never turn back on class; enforce safety and program rules, policies, and regulations.

Attend meetings on a periodic basis, including staff meetings, spotting clinics, CARA meetings and staff training.

Ensure that appropriate equipment is available for classes and events; set up and take down equipment. Completes preventative maintenance by inspecting equipment on a regular basis.

Inform parents if any difficulties arise and keep them informed of accomplishments of students.

Competence in a variety of gymnastics skills, progressions, and spotting techniques at all levels of gymnastics preferred. Willingness to learn spot technique at more advanced levels acceptable.

Be prepared, creative, and energized when teaching. Actively participate in positive, encouraging gymnastics culture of Sparks gymnastics.

Work as a member of a cohesive coaching team. Communicate professionally and openly with other team staff members, head coach, and gymnastics coordinator.

Recognize emergency and dangerous situations by reacting quickly and calmly; administer first aid as needed. Complete Accident/Incident report.

Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.

Correct or inform supervisor of any facility hazards; communicate issues/complaints to supervisor as needed.

Attend work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis; sub for co-workers when available; responsible for securing substitutes for shifts unable to work. Able to commit to regularly working at least 2 hours per week in afternoons/evenings.

Assist with two events (i.e. Maintenance Week, Home Meets, or special events) per calendar year in addition to scheduled shifts.

Education and/or Experience:

Must be at least 16 years of age.

Must be able and willing to follow instructions of provided lesson plans, remain engaged with participants.

One (1) year of experience coaching gymnastics or a strong background in gymnastics knowledge and participation for a minimum of 4 years will be considered.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
-
Current certifications in AED/CPR/First Aid or the ability to obtain such certifications within sixty (60) days of employment.
-
Concussion recognition training is required and must be renewed annually.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-
Competent in a variety of gymnastics skills, progressions, and spotting techniques as well as competent in the use of a variety of gymnastics equipment.

Must have the ability to communicate effectively verbally and establish and maintain working relationships with coworkers and the public.
-
Requires the ability to communicate verbally with both children and adults.
-
Must be highly motivated and take direction well with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Material and Equipment Used:
Demonstrate proper safety knowledge and use of all gymnastics equipment. Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods and general office equipment (computer, copier, phone, etc.).
Working Environment:
Work is performed indoors, working in a gym environment with frequent interruptions and distractions. Working in rooms of various temperatures, indoor noisy environment with music and background noise. Will be exposed to moving parts and dust.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to push, pull or balance. Requires spotting and assisting patrons during the performance of gymnastic moves. Upper body strength is a requisite to lift/move a maximum of 50 pounds unassisted, and lift/move a maximum of 100 pounds with assistance. Vision requirements include: near acuity, far acuity, depth perception and color vision. Must be able to frequently sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, exhibit manual dexterity and the ability to handle objects. The ability to talk and hear via the telephone, e-mail, and through face-to-face communication is needed.
