Duties Description Washington Heights Psychiatric Unit (WHU), an Office of Mental Health (OMH) Joint Commission accredited facility, is recruiting Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrists to provide inpatient psychiatric treatment to individuals with serious mental illness.The selected candidate will serve as Attending Psychiatrist and will provide supervisory oversight and clinical care on the 12-bed inpatient clinical research Eating Disorders Unit (EDU). The mission of this unit, which is part of the Metro NY Comprehensive Care Center for Eating Disorders and is recognized as a Center of Excellence, is to deliver superior evidence-based patient care; support state-of-the-art mental health research activities; and educate medical students, psychiatric residents, and psychology interns and externs in the treatment of individuals with severe eating disorders. The Attending will provide direct psychiatric care to patients admitted to the EDU and will supervise post-graduate trainees in the diagnosis and treatment of individuals with severe eating disorders.• Conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments and patient admissions• Creating treatment plans including medication management• Obtaining and reviewing appropriate laboratory tests and consulting with members of treatment team as needed• Providing individual and group psychotherapy• Supervising Psychiatric Residents and Fellows
Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (HELPS) program if they have:Psychiatrist 1: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and completion of a training program in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).Psychiatrist 2: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and certification in psychiatry approved by the ABPN.ORCandidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

If you are appointed and subsequently listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of these lists (or excluded from any other Federal or federally assisted program), you may be terminated from your employment.2. If appointed you may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider; obtain and provide to your employer a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number issued by the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES); and otherwise actively participate to the degree necessary to allow for your services to be billed through Medicare and Medicaid. If you are appointed and you lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.3. License and Certification: Loss of license or limited permit to practice medicine in New York State or board certification, if required, may result in removal from your position.
