JOB SUMMARY

Proctors Collaborative seeks a professional media artist to serve as a MediaWorks Instructor for the Musical Theatre Academy at Proctors, a Schenectady City School District program. This position is part-time, approximately 25 hours per week, Monday–Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., starting in October concurrent with the school calendar. Occasional additional hours may be required for performances or special projects. This position is not benefits-eligible.

The Musical Theatre Academy is a regional partnership serving high school students from across the Capital Region. This half-day, credit-bearing program provides pre-professional training in music, dance, theatre, and media within a working professional theatre, combining academic instruction with hands-on learning and career exploration.

The MediaWorks Instructor serves as a teaching artist and creative collaborator, working closely with English faculty and Academy teaching artists to integrate media arts into the student experience. Through hands-on projects in filmmaking, photography, video production, editing, and digital storytelling, students develop creative, technical, and professional skills while exploring connections between media, the performing arts, and their academic curriculum.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a teaching artist in the MediaWorks classroom from October through June, including lesson planning, instruction, project development, and classroom support.

  • Collaborate with English faculty to develop and implement media-based projects that support curriculum goals and student learning.

  • Collaborate with Academy dance, music, and theatre faculty to identify meaningful opportunities for media to support and enhance student projects, performances, and activities.

  • Guide students in the use of cameras, lighting, audio equipment, computers, editing software, and other media technology.

  • Teach students the fundamentals of video production, photography, editing, visual storytelling, and digital content creation.

  • Support students in creating promotional videos, documenting performances and projects, conducting interviews, and developing media for public presentation.

  • Contribute to lesson planning, curriculum development, student assessment, grading, and program evaluation.

  • Maintain and track MediaWorks equipment and supplies and ensure equipment is properly stored and cared for.

  • Document student work and program activities for Vimeo, grants, impact reports, and other program communications.

  • Maintain lesson plans, student evaluations, and other required program documentation.

  • Participate in planning meetings and other activities related to the success of the Academy and MediaWorks program.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in media arts, film, communications, or a related field, or a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience.

  • Professional experience in film, television, video production, photography, digital media, or a related field.

  • Experience working with high school students or in an educational setting preferred.

  • Proficiency with Mac platforms and professional media production and editing software. Experience with Final Cut Pro, Adobe Creative Cloud, After Effects, Photoshop, or comparable software preferred.

  • Strong understanding of video production, editing, digital storytelling, and contemporary media practices, including web-based content management

  • Dependable, self-motivated, with strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

  • Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with educators, teaching artists, students, and staff.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Successful completion of a background check required.
