Full job description

Our client is seeking a VFD Technical Support Engineer to provide technical assistance and troubleshooting support for variable frequency drives (VFDs), PLCs, and industrial motor control applications. This is a hands-on, onsite position supporting customers and internal teams with equipment troubleshooting, technical questions, product applications, and repairs.

The ideal candidate has a strong electrical or controls background with practical experience working with VFDs, PLCs, and industrial automation equipment. PLC programming experience is a plus but not required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to customers and internal teams via phone, email, and in person.

  • Troubleshoot VFDs, motor controls, PLC interfaces, and related electrical equipment.

  • Diagnose equipment failures, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions.

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel drawings.

  • Assist with VFD setup, configuration, testing, and repairs.

  • Support communication protocols such as Modbus, Ethernet/IP, and PROFINET.

  • Manage technical service requests, warranty evaluations, and product returns (RMAs).

  • Work with engineering, sales, and service teams to resolve customer issues.

  • Document troubleshooting activities and provide technical guidance to customers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field preferred.

  • Hands-on experience with VFDs and PLCs required.

  • Strong understanding of industrial motor controls, electrical systems, and troubleshooting.

  • Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.

  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols preferred.

  • PLC programming experience is a plus, but not necessary.

  • Experience using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other electrical testing equipment.

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills.

  • Ability to work independently in an onsite technical support environment.
