Description

SALARY RANGE: $50,000 - $75,000 per year

LOCATION: Norfolk, VA

SUMMARY:

Supports Navy ship alteration work, primarily on habitability and other HM&E projects. Working under the direction of senior designers and engineers, this role involves conducting shipboard field verifications, interpreting as-built drawings, and developing Ship Installation Drawings (SIDs) in accordance with NAVSEA standards and Delphinus quality procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct detailed shipchecks on Carriers, Surface Combatants, and Amphibious ships to support habitability and other HM&E overhauls.

  • Utilize technical libraries and ship drawing indexes to identify, locate, and interpret as-built drawings.

  • Create precise Ship Installation Drawings (SIDs) adhering to NAVSEA standards and quality procedures, based on collected shipcheck data and existing documentation.

  • Check drawings according to Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.

  • Coordinate with engineers, production personnel, and customers to resolve design issues and incorporate review comments.

  • Maintain drawing configuration control, revision history, and documentation in accordance with program and quality requirements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; further education or certification in relevant fields is a plus.

  • Minimum experience in U.S. Navy Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) shipboard systems design, commensurate with level.

  • Proficient with AutoCAD; familiarity with other CAD or 3D modeling software (Inventor, SolidWorks, etc.) is a plus.

  • Strong ability to work independently and within a team to meet project deadlines.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.

  • U.S. Citizenship required.

  • Must qualify for or currently hold a DoD Secret security clearance.

  • Ability to travel (20-40%) as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree in drafting/design technology or a related field.

  • Experience with piping system design for Navy shipboard habitability modernization and lifecycle maintenance.

  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 Quality Management System processes.

  • Experience performing shipchecks or field verification in an industrial or waterfront setting.

  • Active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Primarily office-based, with regular visits to shipyards, waterfront facilities, and customer sites. The role involves air travel and walking long distances through large industrial facilities. Field verification will require accessing shipboard spaces, climbing ladders, and may involve working in confined areas.
