Job Summary

The Economics Program in the School of Social Science and Global Studies at the University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for an assistant teaching professor in Economics to begin in August 2027. This is a permanent, full-time, non-tenure-track position with opportunities for promotion.

The school is seeking an economist with a commitment to teaching and mentoring students. The position is open to all areas of specialization in economics.

Teaching responsibilities may include the following classes: basic economics (Eco 101), principles of microeconomics, and principles of macroeconomics, with opportunities to teach an upper-level course in their area of expertise. Courses are primarily face-to-face, but candidates must be able to teach in both face-to-face and online modalities. We make every effort to limit teaching assignments to two course preparations per semester, subject to program and course scheduling needs.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach four courses per semester for fall and spring terms

  • Hold regular office hours to assist students

  • Advise and mentor students.

  • Attend faculty meetings as determined by Director of School of Social Science and Global Studies

  • Participate in service opportunities that impact the university, profession, and/or local communities.

  • Remain current in the discipline.

  • Other duties as assigned.
