What You'll Do
As a Diagnostic Technologist, you will perform a wide variety of diagnostic imaging procedures while providing exceptional patient care and ensuring high-quality imaging results.
Key Responsibilities

Verify patient identity using two patient identifiers and follow all universal protocol standards before performing procedures.

Review patient history and physician orders and apply appropriate departmental protocols to ensure optimal imaging results.

Accurately document patient history and procedure information within the electronic medical record.

Administer oral and rectal contrast media in accordance with physician orders and departmental policies.

Ensure all examinations are properly coded, tracked through the RIS system, archived for interpretation, and accurately charged.

Perform diagnostic radiography procedures independently while following established imaging protocols and safety standards.

Utilize sophisticated imaging equipment to acquire, analyze, manipulate, and document diagnostic images.

Exercise sound judgment and adapt imaging techniques and protocols as needed to obtain high-quality diagnostic studies.

Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, explaining procedures and helping them feel comfortable throughout their experience.

Collaborate effectively with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and fellow team members to support timely, efficient patient care.

Graduate of an ARRT-accredited School of Radiologic Technology, or provide verification from an ARRT-approved program confirming successful completion and an anticipated graduation date.

Candidates hired prior to graduation may begin employment under the indirect supervision of an ARRT-certified Diagnostic Technologist until degree completion is verified.

Must demonstrate strong patient care, communication, and teamwork skills, with a commitment to providing high-quality diagnostic imaging services.

Technologists who have not yet obtained ARRT certification are not permitted to work in an outpatient setting until certification has been achieved.
Licensure, Certifications & Clearances
Required at Hire
-
ARRT Registry Eligible as a Radiologic Technologist.
-
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
-
CPR certification must meet American Heart Association (AHA) standards and include both classroom instruction and hands-on skills demonstration within 30 days of hire.

Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting Clearance with renewal.
-
Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance with renewal.
-
Act 34 Criminal Background Check with renewal.

Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
ARRT Certification Requirements
-
Effective January 1, 2025, newly hired Diagnostic Technologists must obtain ARRT Radiography Certification within six (6) months of hire.
-
Diagnostic Technologists hired or transferred prior to January 1, 2025 must obtain ARRT certification within twelve (12) months of their hire or transfer date.
-
Technologists may not work in an outpatient setting until ARRT certification has been obtained.
New York Facility Requirements
For positions located in New York:
-
Candidates must be certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
-
Candidates must also hold appropriate licensure through the New York State Department of Health.
Temporary Permit Holders
-
Must work under the direct supervision of a licensed Radiologic Technologist.
-
Must obtain ARRT certification within 180 days of the permit issuance date.
-
Temporary permits expire:
-
180 days from the date of issuance,
-
Upon notification that a license application has been denied, or
-
Ten days after notification of failure of the licensing examination,whichever occurs first.
