Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.

  • Education, training, or work experience in industrial water treatment, utility plant operations, mechanical maintenance, or a related field.

  • Understanding of basic water chemistry and ability to perform and document water-quality and chemical testing for boilers, cooling towers, closed-loop systems, and RO systems.

  • Familiar with chemical handling, SDS requirements, PPE , and applicable workplace safety practices.

  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot pumps, valves, piping, chemical-feed equipment, controllers, and related water-treatment equipment.

  • Proficiency in reading technical instructions, interpreting instrument readings, maintaining electronic records, and using computer-based work-order systems.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize assignments, communicate effectively, and respond appropriately to abnormal water-quality or equipment conditions.

  • Ability to obtain required university certifications for forklifts, boom lifts, and scissor lifts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree, technical certificate, or coursework in water technology, industrial maintenance, chemistry, environmental technology, or related field.

  • One or more years of experience in industrial water treatment or central utility plant operations.

  • Experience with boiler-water, cooling-tower, chilled-water, condensate, RO, softener, and chemical-feed systems.

  • Experience with AiM or another computerized maintenance-management system.

  • Experience working in a university, government, industrial, or central-utility environment.

Job Description

Oversee the chemical and mechanical monitoring of all water cooling towers, chilled water systems, and boilers to ensure water quality and optimize energy conservation.

Job Duties

  • Oversee collection and analysis of water samples.

  • Oversee the application of chemicals to water.

  • Maintain and repair injector pumps, meters, probes, and bleed-off valves.

  • Perform plumbing repairs to chemical injection piping.

  • Operate University vehicles.

  • Transport chemicals using University vehicles.

  • Clean cooling towers.

  • Perform inspections, tests, maintenance and repair of water lines, engines, wells, and reservoirs.

  • Perform distribution-system flushing operations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
