Software Engineer- Python & .NET

Job Description

A major client of Insight Global is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a backend engineering team focused on accelerating development of core services and the migration of an existing platform.

This engineer will work across both new development and existing services, with a strong emphasis on Python-based backend API development. The ideal candidate can step into an established engineering environment, understand distributed systems quickly, and begin building production-quality APIs within the first couple of weeks. The environment includes Python, FastAPI, .NET/C#, AWS, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, SNS, SQS, API Gateway, microservices, and event-driven architecture. This is a hands-on senior engineering role for someone comfortable owning development while partnering with cloud, data, and analytics teams.

What You'll Do:

Design, build, test, and maintain backend APIs and microservices Develop greenfield backend services using Python and FastAPI Support and enhance existing .NET/C# core services Help accelerate the migration and modernization of an existing platform Design services using microservices and distributed-system patterns Build and integrate event-driven services using technologies such as AWS SNS and SQS Work with PostgreSQL and DynamoDB Develop services integrating with AWS API Gateway Partner with cloud engineering teams responsible for infrastructure templates and CloudFormation Collaborate with data and analytics teams to improve event and data availability Assist with migration of monitoring capabilities from SolarWinds to a new monitoring/observability platform Balance day-to-day support of existing services with new project development Apply AI-assisted development tools appropriately to improve engineering efficiency and delivery speed

Skills and Requirements

5-8 years of professional backend development experience with Python Experience developing production backend APIs, using FastAPI Experience with C#/.NET and the ability to work effectively in an established .NET codebase Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging/pub-sub patterns Cloud-native backend development experience rather than owning cloud infrastructure. Need prior experience building Python/FastAPI APIs and microservices that leverage services like SNS, SQS, API Gateway, and Dynamo DB Experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL Experience with Domain-Driven Design (DDD) Experience modernizing or migrating legacy/core services Experience with observability or monitoring-platform migrations Familiarity with SolarWinds Exposure to Azure backend development Understanding of CloudFormation and infrastructure-as-code concepts Experience collaborating closely with data and analytics engineering teams Practical familiarity with AI-assisted software development tools
