Job Overview
The Federal Drive anchor must have experience in developing ideas, conducting and managing audio and video interviews is strongly preferred, but will consider the right person with the right background in federal issues. This position holds the primary responsibility for the show’s content and adherence to Federal News Network editorial standards and focus areas. Also responsible for ensuring show is prepared and ready for broadcast each work day, five days per week. Audio and video show segments are posted online and published as podcast segments on major distribution networks, the Federal News Network website and multiple social media platforms. Therefore, anchor must treat Federal Drive as a primary contributor to Federal News Network’s website and as a means of attracting audience via multiple listening and watching formats and digital distribution channels.
Job Responsibilities
PLANNING:
-
Leading the team to determine which guests and topics should be on the show, with a strong preference for federal executives

Working with news staff for suggestions and referrals
BOOKING:
- Working with producers to contact potential guests and their public affairs teams to schedule show appearances. Supervising scheduling; frequently supplying interview questions ahead of the interview
CREATING INTERVIEWS:

Reading, understanding background material

Writing teases, leads, tag
-
Conducting audio and video interviews, typically 2-to-5 per day
CREATING A SHOW:
-
Deciding which interviews will run on a given day’s show

With the assistance of producers, editing audio and video
-
Turning interviews into finished show segments, including the voicing of tags and tracking segment length

Creating show scripts
-
Creating reporter segments. These consist of voicing lead and tag provided by reporter for his or her taped or pre-produced segment. Also engineering and conducting audio and video interviews with staff reporters as daily show segments.
PROMO:
- 30-second daily element written, voiced and mixed by anchor, to promote subsequent day’s show.
WRITING:

Write newscast items and other news stories, as appropriate

Write occasional columns
TOOLS:
- Familiarity with audio editing tools and newsroom content management systems is preferred, but willing to train the ideal candidate.
Qualifications

Experience in the public/federal government sector is strongly preferred.

Experience in journalism is preferred.

Working knowledge of social media platforms

Ability to multitask and work under pressure

Ability to work both alone and as part of a team

Strong leadership and communication skills

Physical Requirements

Average sitting, standing and office-type movements. Light lifting, moving and pulling abilities. Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing. Ability to hear and see clearly. Dexterity to manipulate computer keys and board controls as well as other office equipment. Requires the ability to think critically and tactically and to articulate information in clear, concise manner to others verbally and in writing. Must be able to think quickly and work under tight deadlines and in high pressure situations. Ability to work in a variety of settings including outdoors. The successful candidate must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Additional Information
This position is subject to pre-employment driving record background check. Compensation and Benefits
When extending an offer, the company considers a variety of factors such as (but not limited to) the candidate's work experience, education/training & key skills as well as internal peer equity and other market and business considerations. Compensation range is $125,000 to $200,000 per year.
