Job Description

Facilities Director: Billings AND Laurel (all three Sunshine Academy centers)

This role covers all three of our licensed childcare centers: Highway 312 in Billings, and Ramshorn and 1st Street in Laurel. You’ll split your week between Billings and Laurel, and your workshop and tool storage are at our Ramshorn center in Laurel.

You are the one person responsible for the physical side of all three centers: the buildings and every system in them, the grounds and playgrounds, the vans, and every vendor who works on them. The standard is simple. Every center is safe, looks good from the street to the classroom, and is ready for an inspector any day of the week.

You plan your own week from a maintenance schedule and your own walkthroughs. Nobody hands you work. Results count; busy work does not.

What the work looks like

Preventive maintenance and logging it with photos. Repairs across drywall, paint, doors, plumbing, light electrical, flooring, carpentry, and playground equipment. Looking after heating and cooling, water and septic, fire systems, roofs, and floors (one center runs on geothermal and a pressurized septic system, so you’ll learn some things that aren’t ordinary). Lawns, snow, fences, and playground surfaces. Getting quotes, managing vendors, and staying inside a budget. Keeping every center ready for licensing, health, and fire inspections. Keeping the vans safe and road-legal.

Who you work with

You report to our Director of Operations with a weekly 1:1, and our owner is your technical advisor. You’re part of the Sunshine team, not a contractor passing through.

What we’re looking for

Five or more years in facilities, building maintenance, the trades, or property management. Hands-on across the trades and comfortable with a phone, a work tracker, and a short written report. A valid Montana driver’s license with a clean record. You’ll pass a childcare background check and fingerprinting, and you can respond to a building emergency in Laurel or Billings. HVAC, boiler, or irrigation experience is a plus. Veterans encouraged to apply.

Pay and schedule

Full time, Monday to Friday, around $30 an hour to start depending on experience. Mileage reimbursement for your own vehicle, plus Sunshine shirts, outerwear, and company tools. On call for building emergencies, with some evening and weekend hours for events. As Sunshine adds a fourth center, this role grows into leading a facilities team.

How to apply

Email a resume and a short note on the buildings or properties you’ve kept up. We’d rather talk to someone who can show us their work than someone with the longest resume.

False
