Summary
About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Student Loan repayment may be authorized. This is an open continuous announcement.
Duties
- Assists physician(s) and team members during a variety of highly complex, potentially life-threatening invasive cardiovascular procedures on stable and unstable patients throughout the lifespan continuum.
- Assists in identifying and selecting patient/procedure-specific catheters, supplies, equipment, and contrast medium and volume and then manipulates or changes supplies or instruments in order to meet the requirements of the procedure.
- Ensures patient is well-informed of the procedure and understands circumstances that will occur during his/her procedure.
- Operates defibrillator and pacemaker generator as well as radiographic contrast injector, cardiac output, intravascular ultrasound, angiojet, atherectomy, rotablator, pressure wire, and intra-aortic balloon pump consoles.
- Monitors patient's response to intravenous sedation/analgesia medication administration.
- Cleans instruments and maintains sterile instrument inventory.
- Operates an interactive computerized digital subtraction angiographic system in order to produce coronary and left ventricular graphic images, and to perform pulmonary, aortic, and peripheral arterial imaging.
- Trains new cardiovascular technicians, nurses in all phases of operations related to the performance of cardiac catheterizations.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes operating invasive cardiovascular equipment in a medical setting; explaining invasive cardiovascular procedures to patients; and/or maintaining cardiovascular medical records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions. Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.
