About the Role
Philadelphia Insurance Companies is seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Underwriter to support the continued growth and profitability of our Management and Professional Lines portfolio. Under moderate direction and supervision, this individual contributor will underwrite and market assigned products, manage a profitable book of business, and develop strong agency relationships while delivering underwriting excellence across Management Liability products.
This position can be located in: Denver, Phoenix, Roseville, CA, Walnut Creek, CA, Mission Viejo, CA or Seattle.
The successful candidate will possess, or be trained to develop, technical underwriting expertise, a consultative sales approach, and the ability to partner effectively with brokers, agents, and internal stakeholders to achieve business objectives. Continued learning and development of insurance product and operational knowledge are expected.
Key ResponsibilitiesPortfolio Management & Underwriting

Manage and grow a profitable book of business across the following products:

Directors & Officers (D&O)
-
Employment Practices Liability (EPL)
-
Fiduciary Liability
-
Crime
-
Cyber
-
Workplace Violence and other Management Liability products
-
Gather and analyze information and apply appropriate underwriting techniques to evaluate risk acceptability.

Evaluate, select, and price risks in accordance with PHLY underwriting guidelines, established authority levels, and the department philosophy of underwriting profit by account and line of business.

Analyze financial statements, operational exposures, loss experience, and other risk characteristics to make sound underwriting decisions.

Prepare underwriting submissions and develop recommendations or decisions within established authority limits.

Develop and negotiate pricing, coverage terms, conditions, and endorsements for new and renewal business.

Identify cross-sell opportunities across PHLY commercial product offerings.
Agency & Broker Development
-
Build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with assigned agency partners, producers, and brokers.

Develop territory and agency strategies to drive profitable growth.

Prepare for and participate in marketing activities, agency visits, stewardship meetings, and presentations to communicate PHLY products and value proposition.

Monitor production, retention, and profitability results and implement action plans as needed.
Business Development

Execute targeted marketing plans to attract new business opportunities.

Partner with agency partners to identify and develop prospective accounts.

Maintain awareness of industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activity.

Share market intelligence and underwriting insights with leadership and team members.
Collaboration & Service

Partner with underwriting, claims, risk management, marketing, operations, and product management teams to support business objectives.

Deliver exceptional customer service to agents, brokers, and insureds.

Consistently meet service standards, turnaround times, and production expectations.
QualificationsKnowledge, Skills & Abilities

Technical knowledge of Management Liability insurance products, or the ability and commitment to develop this expertise.

Strong analytical, financial analysis, and risk assessment skills.

Sales, marketing, negotiation, business development, and relationship management capabilities.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building abilities.

Ability to engage effectively with internal and external business partners at all organizational levels.

Ability to develop and execute territory marketing strategies.

Sound decision-making skills and underwriting judgment.

Ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic business environment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and underwriting-related systems.
Education & Experience
-
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 1 year of related industry or underwriting experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Experience supporting or managing agency relationships and a profitable book of business is preferred.

Professional designations such as RPLU, CPCU, ARM, or AU are preferred.
National Range: $77,000.00 - $95,000.00
Ultimate salary offered will be based on factors such as applicant experience and geographic location.
