Full job description

A Snapshot of Your Day

As the Tooling & Die Engineer/Machine Shop Manager, you will lead and manage the machine shop at the Blades and Vanes Tampa (BVT) investment casting facility, overseeing the maintenance, repair, and development of tooling and fixtures for wax pattern production, ceramic core and mold tooling, and downstream casting operations. You will be accountable for ensuring a reliable machine shop that minimizes tooling-related downtime while maintaining the dimensional integrity of castings and developing a pipeline of properly maintained dies, molds, and fixtures for current production and new part introductions. This role requires you to ensure tooling is dimensionally accurate and production-ready to support the on-time delivery of blades and vanes for gas turbine engines. You will collaborate closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Maintenance to troubleshoot tooling failures, extend tool life, and design new or improved tooling and fixtures that enhance safety, quality, and throughput.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Manage daily operations of the machine shop, including staffing, scheduling, workload prioritization, and performance management of tool and die makers/machinists.

  • Establish and enforce safety, quality, housekeeping (5S), and equipment care standards within the machine shop.

  • Develop and manage tooling and fixture repair backlog, prioritizing based on production impact and urgency, while owning capacity planning for preventive maintenance and reactive repairs.

  • Lead root cause analysis and repair of tooling, including wax injection dies, ceramic core dies, and fixtures, while overseeing precision machining, grinding, polishing, and welding to restore tooling to specifications.

  • Design, modify, and build new tooling and fixtures using CAD/CAM software, partnering with Manufacturing and Process Engineering to ensure manufacturability and compliance with GD&T requirements.

  • Operate and oversee CNC milling, turning, EDM, and surface grinding, ensuring equipment maintenance, calibration, and safety while maintaining tight dimensional tolerances with precision measurement tools.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles, ensuring compliance with EHS requirements and training team members on best practices in tooling repair and machining.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical discipline, or equivalent education and experience.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in tool and die making, precision machining, or machine shop operations within a manufacturing environment.

  • Hands-on experience in repairing, maintaining, and building dies, molds, and fixtures.

  • Proficiency with CNC milling, turning, EDM, surface grinding, and standard machine shop equipment.

  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T.

  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills for tooling-related failures, along with demonstrated team leadership abilities in a fast-paced production environment.

  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam) for tooling design.

  • This position may require an export license from the Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Department of State, Directorate of Defense Trade Controls. Issuance of any required license is a prerequisite for this position.

  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
