Job Description

There's no pledge more important than the one we make to look after our environment, and we're committed to helping you do exactly that.

Join us as we strive to ensure a sustainable future for our communities and the world we live in.

Become part of our global network of skilled engineers, scientists, auditors, planners and environmental specialists, all working together to leave this world better than we found it.

Who are we looking for?

As an Environmental Remediation Consultant, Emergency Response with GHD FIRST, you will be a core member of our emergency response team and will respond to environmental incidents throughout the United States. You will lead projects from initial emergency response and site stabilization through environmental investigation, remediation, restoration, regulatory coordination, and closure.

This is an environmental consulting leadership role for an experienced remediation professional who can operate effectively during an incident, advise private-sector clients, manage complex technical projects, and lead multidisciplinary engineering and scientific teams. The successful candidate must be available for after-hours response and travel and will also manage remediation, preparedness, and environmental projects between active responses.

This is not a general emergency-management, disaster-recovery, weather-response, or construction-contractor position. We are seeking an experienced environmental engineering or remediation consultant who can apply that technical background during environmental emergency responses.

Who is GHD FIRST:

GHD Fast Incident Response Services Team (GHD FIRST) delivers 24/7/365 environmental emergency response, remediation, preparedness, and incident management services throughout North America.

Our team supports some of the continent's largest railroad, pipeline, energy, manufacturing, and industrial clients, helping them prepare for incidents, respond when they occur, and successfully navigate investigation, remediation, restoration, regulatory, and operational challenges.

Backed by more than 100 offices and over 200 emergency-response-trained professionals across North America, GHD FIRST combines rapid response capabilities with the technical depth of a leading environmental and engineering consulting firm.

Responsibilities of the position will be but are not limited to:

Manage environmental emergency response, investigation, remediation, restoration, and compliance projects from proposal through completion. This role combines hands-on field work responding to emergencies with office-based project management/support.

Serve as the primary client contact and lead all aspects of project delivery, including scope, schedule, budget, forecasting, invoicing, reporting, quality, and communication.

Develop technical strategies, scopes, cost estimates, remedial approaches, work plans, and regulatory solutions that support client objectives.

Lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate technical specialists, field personnel, subcontractors, and contractors.

Support environmental investigations, corrective actions, remediation programs, site closure strategies, and regulatory engagement efforts.

Prepare proposals, technical reports, regulatory deliverables, and other client-facing documents while supporting business development and account growth.

Mentor staff, support emergency response readiness, and represent GHD through client interactions, industry events, and after-hours incident response activities as needed.

What you will bring to the team:

5+ years of experience with an environmental, engineering, or remediation consulting firm.

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field.

Demonstrated experience managing environmental investigation, remediation, and compliance projects under state and federal regulatory programs.

Experience supporting private-sector industrial clients, including rail, pipeline, manufacturing, chemical, energy, or similar industries.

Experience managing project financial performance, including budgets, forecasting, contracting, change management, invoicing, and subcontractor management.

Experience leading environmental field programs, including investigations, sampling, monitoring, remediation implementation, and contractor oversight.

Experience responding to environmental emergencies and supporting preparedness, drills, exercises, and field response operations.

Strong project management, client relationship management, business development, and communication skills, including preparation of technical reports and client presentations.

Working knowledge of ICS, air monitoring, environmental sampling, SCAT, and emergency response operations.

Experience supporting railroad and pipeline incidents is preferred.

Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and multidisciplinary teams.
