This posting is for a full-time, unclassified, in-person, on-site staff position for our Bossier campus. Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctorate in a related discipline or Higher Education Leadership from a regionally accredited institution.

  • Three (3) or more years of successful supervisory or administrative leadership experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the mission of the community college, including its role in education, training, and regional economic development.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, grow, and assess a rigorous and relevant curriculum.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and evaluate faculty.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability in positions of increased duties and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability and resilience to embrace change in the ever-changing environment of higher education.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear and handle or feel objects and controls.
  • Must have physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office equipment such as, but not limited to, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or carry up to 10 pounds.
  • Must be capable of sitting in stationary position for 50% or more of time.

The Dean of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics provides leadership and management for the education and training programs of the division at all College sites. The Dean is responsible for the quality of instruction, the currency and rigor of the division's curricula, the supervision and development of faculty and staff, and the alignment of the division's academic programs and workforce-aligned training with the needs of employers and industries across the College's service area. The Dean represents the division to the broader instructional environment and to employers, industry partners, secondary and postsecondary institutions, and economic development organizations across the region, while conveying the policies of the College and implementing those policies within the division. The Dean shall model and sustain the behavioral commitments of Caring Campus within the division and shall maintain a commitment to quality instruction and training, the primary objective of the institution. WORKFORCE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT:

  • Lead the division's work to align its education and training programs with the current and projected workforce needs of the College's service area, so that graduates and completers enter the regional labor market prepared for employment and advancement.
  • Build and sustain working relationships with employers, industry associations, economic development organizations, and state and regional workforce partners to identify skills gaps and develop responsive programming.
  • Establish and maintain active program advisory committees for division programs, convene them on a regular schedule, document their recommendations, and act on employer input in curriculum, equipment, and scheduling decisions.
  • Regularly assess regional, state, and national labor market data and job market trends to determine opportunities for new programs, credentials, and course offerings, and to evaluate the continued viability of existing offerings.
  • Identify, evaluate, and embed industry-based credentials, licensures, and third-party certifications within division programs, and monitor credential attainment as a measure of program effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with the College's workforce and continuing education operations to develop short-term training, customized training for employers, incumbent worker training programs, and professional development offerings within the division's disciplines, and to build stackable pathways from that training into the division's academic programs.
  • Support the development of work-based learning opportunities, including internships, apprenticeships, and field placements, and cooperative education, in partnership with regional employers.
  • Pursue and support external funding, including grants and contracts, that expands the division's capacity to deliver education and training, and ensure accurate and timely reporting on grant deliverables.
  • Represent the division and the College in regional economic development activities, employer meetings, and partnership discussions, including collaboration with secondary education partners on dual enrollment and career pathway alignment.

INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP AND SUPERVISION:

  • Supervise the staff and faculty assigned to the division, including all faculty teaching division courses at any College campus, center, or instructional site and in any instructional modality.
  • Promote a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, collaboration, and excellence in performance, and serve as a positive role model who embodies team values and promotes high morale among faculty and staff.
  • Participate actively in the interviewing, selection, and hiring processes for all staff and faculty appointments within the division. Complete the Credentialing Verification Form for all new faculty hires. Recruit adjunct instructors for hiring and facilitate the onboarding process, including disseminating relevant course materials for course preparation.
  • Serve as the supervisor and evaluator of record for all full-time faculty in the division. Conduct annual performance evaluations and reviews of personnel in the division as required, including completing classroom observations of all full-time faculty at every site where division courses are taught during the academic year, and develop performance improvement plans when appropriate. Classroom observations and performance reviews of adjunct faculty are conducted by the Assistant Dean.
  • Review all student evaluations of faculty each semester and discuss the results with faculty to identify strengths as well as any areas for improvement.
  • Encourage faculty and staff professional development by informing the division of conferences, seminars, workshops, and industry training opportunities that maintain currency in the disciplines taught. Review requests to attend and forward them for approval.
  • Hold regular division meetings to discuss information pertinent to faculty and staff and to allow for their input on relevant decisions.
  • Keep communication open and maintain a flow of information with all full-time and adjunct faculty, remaining accessible to answer questions and accountable for the accurate and timely dissemination of information.
  • Annually review and update credentialing criteria for division courses in the BPCC Faculty Credentialing Matrix.
  • Serve on the Deans' Council as an active participant and keep the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and the Associate Vice Chancellor of Instruction informed of short-range planning and the evaluation of ongoing activities within the division.

CURRICULUM, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING:

  • Develop, implement, and assess a rigorous and relevant curriculum with program directors, faculty, employers, and other stakeholders that reflects current industry practice, technology, and standards.
  • Verify that every division course section offered in the active term has a syllabus published in Simple Syllabus and accessible to students through Canvas. Review syllabi to confirm they meet the expectations of the College, and consult with faculty on needed modifications and improvements.
  • Annually review programmatic curriculum in close collaboration with program directors and faculty, informed by the recommendations of program advisory committees, employers, industry partners, transfer institutions, and other community stakeholders, and submit resulting updates through the College's established approval process for implementation in the College Catalog.
  • Supervise the preparation and revision of course descriptions and other catalog information for division course offerings and programs, working with program directors and faculty to confirm accuracy and currency, and conduct an annual review of the College Catalog.
  • Facilitate the development and submission of curriculum proposals, including new courses and programs as well as revisions, additions, and deletions, working closely with faculty, program directors, industry partners, and community stakeholders, and advance each proposal through the required levels of review and approval, including the College's Curriculum Committee, the LCTC System Board of Supervisors, and the Louisiana Board of Regents, as applicable.
  • Ensure that approved curriculum changes are implemented in the College Catalog and are communicated in a timely manner to faculty, advisors, students, and other interested parties, including updates to advising materials, program maps, and articulation documents.
  • Collaborate with area universities and community colleges concerning programs, curricula changes, and negotiations for transferability of courses, and promote opportunities for articulation agreements with other institutions.
  • Review transferability of credit earned at other Louisiana colleges or out-of-state institutions toward the completion of associate degree or certificate requirements at BPCC.
  • Regularly assess the technological, instructional, and equipment needs of faculty and students in division courses and programs, with attention to industry-current equipment and software, and find solutions to meet those needs.
  • Participate in the selection of library materials, visual aids, and information software to support the division's instructional goals, advocate faculty and student use of library resources, and forward all division requests to the Dean of Learning Resources.
  • Coordinate ordering of textbooks and necessary instructional materials with division faculty and the campus bookstore for all classes in the division.

STUDENT SUCCESS AND CARING CAMPUS:

  • Model and sustain Caring Campus behavioral commitments within the division, ensuring that faculty and staff intentionally connect students to people, programs, and services across the College.
  • Lead the division faculty and staff in efforts to promote student enrollment, retention, and completion of programs and credentials.
  • Monitor student enrollment and retention within classes in the division, using retention reports and other data, and discuss results with faculty to identify strengths as well as any areas for improvement.
  • Receive student complaints about faculty members, address and resolve student concerns in accordance with College policy and procedure, and take any necessary actions.
  • Cooperate with the Division of Learning Resources to provide students opportunities for enrichment and remediation in subjects taught in the division.
  • Verify applications for graduation within the division each semester are submitted by program directors, faculty, and staff to meet all required deadlines set by the Registrar.
  • Accept telephone calls and respond to correspondence about the courses, programs, or degree plans within the division.

ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT AND SCHEDULING:

  • Identify scheduling needs through available tools such as AdAstra and DegreeWorks, and prepare and coordinate class schedules during fall, winter, spring, Maymester, and summer semesters for all College campuses, centers, and instructional sites. This includes offering a variety of courses, modalities, and schedules that meet the needs of students, working adults, and employer partners, and determining faculty instructional assignments consistent with expertise and academic preparation.
  • Supervise registration events within the division for fall, winter, spring, Maymester, and summer semesters. Monitor class size limits throughout registration and add or cancel classes as necessary. Provide updates regarding faculty advisor assignments to the Office of Academic Affairs.
  • Operationalize division advising processes, including regularly reviewing and revising advising materials so that they align with catalog requirements and program pathways.
  • Represent the division at recruitment activities, academic endeavors, career events, and other College and community functions.

PLANNING, ASSESSMENT, AND ACCREDITATION:

  • Work with division faculty and staff to plan, identify division outcomes, and monitor achievement of outcomes that support the planning and evaluation of the College's long-range goals and objectives.
  • Gather student learning outcomes data each semester for division courses and discuss results with program directors and faculty annually to identify strengths and to address any areas of improvement.
  • Work with program directors to monitor the institutional effectiveness of programs within the division by coordinating program reviews, analyzing results of the reviews, and establishing goals for program improvement.
  • Ensure that division programs meet the requirements of the College's institutional accreditor, applicable programmatic accreditors, and relevant licensing and certifying bodies.
  • Prepare institutional, state, and national reports for the division on a timely basis and upon request.

BUDGET AND RESOURCES:

  • Prepare an annual budget, with faculty input, to be submitted to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
  • Work with division faculty and staff to identify opportunities to seek external funding for division operations.
  • Manage the ordering of items approved in the budget and track expenditures in the division.
  • Manage and report time keeping for all faculty and staff within the division.
  • Manage operation of any division labs, including, but not limited to, scheduling, staffing, maintaining equipment and supplies, monitoring services to meet student needs, and ensuring that lab environments reflect current industry equipment and safety standards.
  • Assist with the planning and management of the physical facilities assigned to the division.

COMMUNITY AND SERVICE:

  • Actively participate in community activities, advisory boards, and professional organizations that advance the goals of the division and the College.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of a College committee and as a member of an ad-hoc committee, upon request.
  • Other duties as assigned.
