Full job description

Optiver is looking for a detail-oriented and motivated undergraduate student to join our US Compliance Team as a part-time intern during the academic year. Working within the Regulatory Advisory team, you will support Optiver's US employee compliance and registrations program, taking ownership of recurring processes that keep the firm and its employees in line with regulatory requirements, and helping us make those processes more efficient.

What you’ll do

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Support the registration lifecycle for US employees, including preparing and tracking regulatory registration filings, amendments and terminations, and coordinating fingerprinting

  • Support the employee personal trading program, including reconciling employee brokerage account data and processing account-related requests

  • Maintain accurate records and trackers, and follow up on exceptions with employees and internal teams

  • Document procedures and propose improvements, including automation, that make recurring processes more efficient and reliable

  • Assist with research on regulatory requirements and prepare short summaries for the team

  • Work with Compliance, Human Resources, Trading and Operations, and learn how the regulatory obligations we manage connect to the firm's business

What you’ll get

You'll join a culture of collaboration and excellence, surrounded by curious thinkers and creative problem-solvers. Motivated by a passion for continuous improvement, you'll thrive in a supportive, high-performing environment alongside talented colleagues, collectively tackling some of the toughest challenges in the financial markets.

In addition, you'll receive:

  • Hands-on experience in a US compliance program at a leading trading firm, with real ownership of recurring work from early on

  • A highly competitive internship compensation package

  • A flexible part-time schedule designed around your academic commitments

  • Extensive office perks, including breakfast, lunch, snacks, regular social events, clubs, sporting leagues, and more

Who you are

  • A current undergraduate junior or senior, able to work from our Chicago office 10–20 hours per week during the academic year

  • Strong attention to detail and focus on execution, with reliable follow-through on recurring deadlines

  • Analytical thinker, able to read and interpret rules and regulations

  • Strong research and writing skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced environment

  • High level of integrity and discretion

  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel; experience with scripting or automation is a plus

  • Intellectually curious, with a genuine interest in financial markets and regulatory compliance

  • Coursework in finance, economics, business, accounting, pre-law or a related field is helpful but not required. No prior compliance experience is needed

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment authorization for this job opening
