Full job description

About Brighterway Brighterway builds AI-native claims software and administration for casualty claims. We started in workers' compensation medical-legal review, where our agentic document pipeline sorts, de-duplicates and summarizes some of the most document-heavy files in the industry for national medical-evaluation networks. We are now building the claims platform on top of that foundation: intake across mail, fax, phone and email, bill review, subrogation, reserving signals, a workflow language, and state and federal reporting. We are backed by Y Combinator and Maverick Ventures. Our customers handle protected health information every day, so we run HIPAA, SOC 2 and ISO 27001 programs. The team is small and technical and sits close to customers. Everyone ships, and everyone talks to the people who use what they ship. The role We are looking for an experienced adjuster to handle California workers' compensation claims and move cases toward resolution. You will work on our platform, often directly alongside a customer's claims team, and you will work closely with the engineers building better tools for adjusters. What you find wrong or slow in a file becomes a fix in the product. What you will do

  • Review claim files, identify missing information, and set clear next steps.

  • Help finalize settlements: contact injured workers, explain documents, obtain signatures, and follow through with the WCAB.

  • Keep accurate, timely notes and flag issues before they become delays.

  • Review AI-generated summaries, chronologies and risk flags, and correct them. Your corrections train the system.

  • Document California requirements (benefit notices, UR and IMR, QME and AME, MPN, liens, C&R and Stips) for the product team.

What we look for

  • At least five years handling California workers' compensation claims.

  • Strong file-review skills and sound judgment on compensability, reserves and settlement.

  • Clear, patient communication with injured workers, attorneys and providers.

  • Ability to handle California claims is required; a California SIP designation or active adjuster license is a plus.

  • Precise in writing and comfortable giving blunt feedback to software people.

Nice to have

  • Experience at a TPA, carrier or self-insured employer program in California.

  • Experience with litigated files and settlement negotiation.

  • Experience with claims system migrations.

How we work

  • Small team, high trust, direct access to founders and customers.

  • We ship to production weekly and measure ourselves on customer outcomes.

  • Competitive salary and meaningful equity. Health, dental and vision coverage. Flexible time off.

Brighterway is an equal opportunity employer. Location: Remote or California-based (United States) Employment type: Full-time, with potential to support a customer's team directly
