Full job description
Description The Experience
The Experience Artifact Platform (EAP) organization serves as the core deployment and management engine for Salesforce's multi-framework applications and the agentic Headless Experience Layer.
Within this broader organization, your team will act as the crucial connective tissue, owning the middle-tier services that power these headless experiences. This includes driving the global branding architecture for all agentic interactions across our multi-framework offerings. Beyond these forward-looking initiatives, your group will also operate, maintain, and scale the Salesforce Files Platform—the large scale, foundational service supporting every line of business across the entire Salesforce ecosystem.
We are seeking a visionary and operationally rigorous Director of Engineering to lead and scale a multi-layered engineering group dedicated to building robust, high-impact platforms.
Lead and Mentor the Team: Develop your organization by establishing clear growth paths, empowering Engineering Managers and Engineering Leaders to operate autonomously, and cultivating top engineering talent.
Build a High-Trust, High-Standards Culture: Foster an environment of high operational rigor and open communication, providing your team with clear strategic context and ensuring seamless visibility across the broader organization.
Drive Delivery and Execution: Commit to ambitious quarterly goals with precise milestones, maintain predictable delivery timelines, and proactively navigate complex cross-functional dependencies.
Set Technical Strategy and Architecture: Guide engineers with clear architectural direction, deeply vet technical designs, and secure alignment with stakeholders on long-term technical investments.
Own Reliability and Operational Excellence: Uphold exceptional standards for system performance, SLA compliance, and incident response, driving continuous improvements in platform resiliency at scale.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
- Own and synthesize multi-quarter technical roadmaps, securing buy-in and alignment from cross-functional stakeholders in Product, Go-To-Market, and overarching Engineering leadership.
- Proactively identify resourcing gaps, architectural risks, and timeline blockers, presenting fully researched mitigation plans before escalations occur.
- Represent the engineering organization in high-level stakeholder and business unit meetings with accuracy, executive presence, and deep technical context.
- Manage, mentor, and delegate effectively to Engineering Managers and Engineering Leaders, transitioning them into fully autonomous leaders who can independently run their agile ceremonies and represent their respective domains.
- Proactively manage organizational performance by conducting continuous gap analyses, identifying top performers for advanced technical challenges, and executing structured remediation plans for underperformers.
- Own the downward communication of strategic shifts, organizational changes, and roadmaps, ensuring your engineers have clear context and connection to the broader business goals.
- Build, implement, and hold teams accountable to rigorous, scalable systems for SLA compliance, bug hygiene, and incident management (RCAs).
- Drive complex, cross-functional project deliveries from initial PRD through production rollout, defining exact delivery dates and ensuring on-time execution.
- Establish unified dashboarding and standardized reporting metrics across all your teams to integrate with broader organizational standards, moving the team from reactive firefighting to predictable delivery.
- Provide proactive, highly accurate visibility into your teams' sprint deliverables, capacity constraints, and blockers without requiring prompting or chasing from executive leadership.
- Maintain a high standard of technical and leadership communication, ensuring that all status updates, timeline shifts, and technical justifications are thoroughly vetted before being presented.
You're Our Person If...
- Experience: 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years at the Director level managing multiple teams and managing managers.
- Scale & Reliability: Proven experience designing, building, and operating large-scale services with high availability requirements.
- Technical Depth: Strong architectural background capable of deeply vetting technical designs, root-cause analyses (RCAs), and resolving complex technical debt at scale.
- Proactive Operator: A proven track record of implementing operational systems that allow teams to function autonomously without requiring the Director to act as a day-to-day project manager.
- Exceptional Communicator: Ability to distill complex engineering statuses into clear, actionable updates for executive stakeholders, while also being a highly responsive and reliable collaborator.
- Crisis Resilience: Proven ability to handle production incidents and escalations calmly while maintaining strict focus on overarching operational baselines and project milestones.
