This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is highly organized, mechanically inclined, comfortable working directly with customers, and interested in developing hands-on technical skills. Initially, your role will focus heavily on operational coordination, including scheduling with customers, preparing equipment, managing inventory, organizing installation documentation, and supporting field technicians. Over time, you will receive on-the-job training and take on greater responsibility for installing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing Understory weather stations across the United States. In this role, you will help deliver the on-the-ground technology that powers severe-weather monitoring, early warnings, and risk-mitigation solutions for our solar asset and automotive clients. What You’ll Do

  • Confirm site details, access requirements, scheduling, and other logistics in advance of field visits
  • Prepare, test, organize, and package the equipment and tools required for each installation
  • Maintain accurate equipment, parts, shipping, and warehouse inventory records
  • Keep the warehouse and equipment-preparation areas clean, safe, and organized
  • Coordinate equipment shipments and help ensure materials arrive at customer sites on time
  • Recommend and implement safety procedures and process improvements to drive efficiency
  • Prepare installation documents, checklists, site information, and project materials
  • Maintain accurate photo documentation, installation records, service notes, and inventory reporting
  • Support field technicians during weather station installations, inspections, maintenance, and repairs
  • Travel to customer locations across the United States and serve as a professional, responsive representative of Understory
  • Learn Understory’s installation and maintenance processes through hands-on training and supervised fieldwork
  • Gradually take ownership of routine installations, mechanical maintenance, and basic troubleshooting
  • Help ensure projects meet technical, operational, safety, and customer requirements
  • Identify potential scheduling, equipment, or site issues and coordinate with the appropriate team members to resolve them

Skills & Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of experience in field service, installation, warehouse, construction, facilities, logistics, military service or operations coordination ideal. Climbing certifications or experience working at heights are a plus.
  • Mechanically inclined and interested in developing hands-on installation and repair skills
  • Highly organized, dependable, and attentive to detail
  • Strong communication and customer-service skills
  • Willing to learn new equipment, systems, and technical processes
  • Able to follow detailed instructions, checklists, and safety procedures
  • Comfortable working independently while also collaborating with a partially remote team
  • Flexible, resourceful, and able to solve problems in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable using basic workplace technology to manage schedules, documentation, inventory, and customer communication
  • Able to lift objects weighing up to 75 pounds
  • Comfortable climbing ladders, bending, squatting, stooping, twisting, reaching, walking, standing, and occasionally working at heights or on irregular surfaces
  • Able to travel approximately 50% of the time, with the remaining time spent supporting operations and equipment preparation
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Able to meet the requirements to be insured on company vehicles and willing to drive a company vehicle
